Do you take this as Calzaghe admitting he couldn't beat prime RJJ?

Old news, as someone else said at least he didn't try and take the ****, like some other fighters would've done and bragged that he beat a great version of Roy.

For the person who said Roy would've destroyed Calzaghe, that's absolute bollocks! Roy would've edged him out, but Joe is a special fighter and would've always given Jones Jr. problems.

Bit like Whitaker vs. Mayweather Jr. Pernell takes it, but it would've been close.

Calzaghe would not get crushed by Hopkins or Jones imo, he would be competitive with both, but lose a decision to both.

IMO the difference in the fight, would be Jones's speed, Hopkins's superior technique, and Joe's inferior defense.

Joe would be a test for most, simply because he has a good chin, high workrate, decent speed, good Boxing skills, and adaptability, plus he is a lefty, infact I think the only thing that holds him back against these type of fighters, is a lack of defense, refined punching technique, which is why he was made to look so inaccurate against Hopkins.

Roy Jones was best in history in his prime.

joe calzaghe said he would never fight jones because of the way jones was looking as of late, it was until the lacy fight were he said ok ill fight him.none of these mofos could see jones in his prime.not hopkins, not cazhaghe, no dawson, n one in the super 6.

jones that fought at heavy weight vs the klit bros who you pickin.

Yes, he would have a 'serious chance' of losing. Somewhere along the lines of a 99.999999% chance. I'll give him .0000000001% chance of winning in case a spotlight falls from ceiling and KO's Roy for him or something.

From the original post... Calzaghe was consoling his crying son. Aside from that, Calzaghe himself has admitted that Roy isn't/wasn't at his best when he fought him. At his best, Roy beats Calzaghe, but it's not an absolute beating like some people are claiming. Calzaghe was the real deal... though Roy at his best was on a different level - but that's the case with Roy against nearly every single fighter in the history of the sport on a head to head basis.

    exactly

IMO roy beats calzaghe in his prime, most likely convincingly but joe calzaghe would be in the fight all night, he had genuine skills.

If prime Roy knocks Calzaghe down in Rd 1, he would be on his ass like a fly on ****, Roy would shoe-shine and throw multiple combinations, Calzaghe would go into a turtle and the ref would be forced to stop the fight due to Calzaghe not returning any fire, it would probably look like Calzaghe vs. Manfredo. However, Joe would be more careful against a prime RJ, I see a UD for Jones 9rds to 3.
