Do you think a round could be won without throwing a punch?

There's the old story/myth of Willie Pep winning a round without throwing a single punch, but do you think (that story aside) that this is possible? If someone put on an absolutely stunning defensive performance for a round and controlled the fight but never threw a punch, would you score it for them?

    No. Even round.

Edit: Assuming said boxer doesn't get hit.

I heard Willie Pep one a round on two of the three judges scorecards without throwing a punch. He won on defense and ring generalship.

Depends on the scenario. Lets say it was against someone like Margarito or Williams who is throwing 100+ punches a round and he doesnt land anyone of those punches then yes I could see myself giving them that round. I mean if not one body shot or temple shot lands after throwing 100 punches then that D must be special.

 Erm...I guess so. I know rounds are scored mostly on punches landed and the effectiveness of those punches (power punches>jabs for instance). However rounds are also influenced by defence and ring generalship I believe so while neither guy lands a punch, one guy has a clear advantage in ring generalship and defence.

Sugar Valuev once landed a fart on Clifford Etienne. Knocked him down in the 3rd round. Does that count as a round win(d) ? :huh

Yes. Scenario: Bell rings, both guys rush out, one pulls a hamstring and falls to the mat in pain. Referee stops the fight. Round won by fighter standing.

In Oakland you can win an entire fight just using your head.

This was exposed as just a myth, and has no truth behind it. It is not possible to win around, at best it could be even but boxing is about pressing the fight and the fighter actually throwing probably would win said round, but no, its impossible to win around without throwing a punch. It just gives people giggles thinking that someone was so good defensivly (Henry was) that they win rounds without punches. Just not possible.

Avoiding punches don't win rounds no matter how skillfully done it is.

Basically, no-one has managed to hit the other guy. It's a drawn round.

What you would have to give for defence, you would have to give for sheer aggression for the other guy. Simple logic.

Ring generalship, my arse. Learn to ****ing punch.

If nothing 'lands' then I will have to score it to the guy who hit the other boxers gloves or elbows. No possible way to win without throwing a punch.
