Do you think a title belt should be at stake for the PAC-Cotto fight?

All parties involved in a title fight have to pay sanctioning fees. In the case with the WBO, they charge 3% of the purse or the fee cap of 150k. In the case of this fight, both Cotto and Pac would each have to pay a $150k sanctioning fee to the WBO, and the promotional company, (Top Rank) also has to pay $40k.

 

Yes knowledgeable fight fans who were there when it happened will judge it like that. BUt the generations ahead will probably e swayed by the titles. I mean how many times did we hear DLH and SRL's credentials being the only so and so fighters to ever win so and so titles in so and so divisions although we all know DLH's title at 160 and SRL's title at 175 are hardly credible.

 

Interesting reading. Again, I am not an expert on this but I think that the WBO is going beyond (abusing) its power..... why am I saying this???? because Cotto and Pac can fight a 10 round fight without the title on the line like any other 10 round fight.

If Pac isn't Cotto's mando, then Cotto doesn't even has to fight him in the first place. In other words, if at the end of the day for whatever reason the fight doesn't happpen then the WBO can't say nothing.

 

What I was trying to say is that probably Cotto has no problems in putting his title on the line, but he is not willing to pay his share of the sanctioning fees....

Probably he left that up to Arum to decide, in other words if TOP Rank wants a title on the line, then TOP Rank should pay for Cotto's portion of the sanctioning fees. Could be that Cotto told that to Arum....

Maybe Arum went back to Pac's lawyers and said that the title could be on the line but they (Pac) would have to pay Cotto's sanctioning fees... and probably they didn't accept that proposal from Arum, then the title wouldn't be on the line.

At the end of the day might be that the problem and the solution to that problem is $$$$$$$$$$$

Hmmmm the WBO should be on the line, I mean Pacquiao has no belt to offer but a win against Pacquiao is big. It will boost Cotto's P4P ranking by alot. number 3 probably

 

Fight should be at 147 or 140.

A belt should then be on the line.

 

for the belt to be up for grabs the fight should be held at 147...not 145..if pac wins is he going to force all his opponents to fight him at 145?....if he wants the WW belt then he should fight at the minimum weight required...not a catch weight.

 

I'm stuck on this because i feel Cotto for saying no because they are not at the leisure of the full 147lb limit. But catch weight fights have usually been fought with titles on the line. And it will definitely be great for Pac to be the first man to ever be a 7 weight champ.

 

If it's a title fight, I'll say, good. If it's a non title fight, I'm not going to loose sleep over it. All i want is to see the fight.

I think the names of these two fighters and what they can do inside the ring is enough to get your casual viewer excited about the match. I have a lot of friends who rarely watches a boxing match that tuned in to watch the Pac/ODLH bout. They were eager and excited to watch the fight knowing that no titles were involved.

The casual viewer will only watch fights that has big names on them, regardless if it's a title or non title bout. Only my opinion though.
