Do you think Anthony Joshua would be a top 10 heavyweight boxer if he competed in the 1970s?

I think AJ would get smashed personally. AJ is a poor boxer, it just gets covered up really well because of his size and power.

AJ is a great fighter and you are forgetting all the good fights he had because of one unfocused performance. He has beaten alot of good fighters and has a proven record.

Top 10 definitely. He was so much bigger than most of those guys. Top 5 and Top 3 is where it gets a bit tricky. Guys like Ali or Foreman really were freaks and would easily be competitive today. That's not something you can readily say about most boxers in the 70s

what are we talking here? Are we trawling through the top 10 rankings year by year to see if he can get in? or are we talking a top 10 heavyweight of the 70s decade. If its the first then yeah, he could make the top 10 in a few of the years. As a whole, and im assuming EVERY fighter is at their best, then thats different gravy. Im not so sure he would make the top 10

Antony Joshua has physical advantages over those heavyweight fighters in the 1970s so I think that he could be in top 10 if he competed. The average weight of those heavyweight world champions in that period was around 220 pounds but Joshua is bigger than most of them.

He has good skills, he boxed well in the rematch with Ruiz and throws good combos.

I feel Foreman, Frazier and Ali would have beaten him.

Joshua would definitely be a top 5 heavyweight, and be in competitive fights with the other top guys of the 1970s.

That was basic boxing, moving on the back foot and boxing long is not the hardest to do. AJ had the advantage in foot speed - but has been regressing in skills under McCraken. He really isnt fluid, doesn't transitioning fast from attack to defence.

I disagree a bit, but I do think you`re probably right about McCracken.

He probably would've started boxing earlier back then. The guy is massive and a lot more natural than somebody like Wilder who also started late. I don't think it's insane to suggest he could beat the 10th best HW of the 1970s. Jimmy Young got beat all the time.
