Personally I don't. The guy just isn't good enough I'm afraid. I thought he was pathetic in the post fight interview at the Bayaar fight. Bayaar was being humble and respectful, even though he should have got the decision instead of the fight being called a draw. Sexton was mouthing as if he got robbed and showing no respect to Bayaar. Besides that, I just don't think he has the talent or ability to go to the top. Maloney was hyping him up but I reckon he is just the next Danny Hunt.
He didn't look anything special against Bayaar. Before head clashes opened up cuts Bayaar was winning quite handily if I remember right.
I don't see it. He'll beat Edwards and could get to Euro level quite easily since apart from Bayaar there's virtually no one of note at fly or super fly. But I can't see him going much further.
I see Sexton vs Bayaar like Fury vs Big John. Sexton only put his foot on the peddle once it was clear he was losing, although he conducted himself poorly after the fight he showed heart, grit and a serious will to win during the match. World champion... probably not, but hes shown a willingness to dig deep and a desire to get better. His last fight was a learning curve but something to build upon.
No chance. Though Bayaar is probably underrated because he has a few losses, you still struggle to see Sexton beating world class operators. He also showed a lack of class so I'm not sure if he'll ever recognize his own shortcomings.
At the start of the year I tipped him to be British, Commonwealth & European Champ by now. I got carried away with the Usman Ahmed KO. If he looks good on No 13th I am likely to get carried away again
He needed bigger tests before being put in with Bayaar. As impressive as the Ahmed KO was it would have been better if Ahmed had taken him 8 rounds or so, made things hard for him. As there is so little depth in these weight divisions, the only meaningful fights for him after putting Ahmed away are Bayaar and Chris Edwards.
Ha ha. No chance. Bayaar beat him and us brits just simply aren't good enough in those weight divisions.
