Calzaghe ain't coming back

 

He's retired.

When Mayweather retired he was 29, that's why a lot of people thought he will return anyway especially when he had injuries he needed to get rid of with a break. Calzaghe is 38, returning is NOT a smart move unless he's in desperate need of money.

 

Joe is gone for good. He has sealed his phony legacy by adding Hopkins and jones to his resume, and has no interest in boxing. The piece of trash was even starting to disrespect the sport and say it is dead. We dont need a jerk off like him around.

 

He's retired and won't come back.

Superfically, Calzaghe's legacy is very good.

But its quite easy to pick holes in his achivements.

Will be even more confirmed when Kessler whens the tournament.

As for picking holes in his achievements - pick a hole in him being the only fighter to ever hold all four titles at his weight, plus the ring championship without ever being defeated.

With the bouts he's promoting, he said he was even busier than when he was a boxer. And the clip seemed to be even before appearing on the dancing show. Dude's not coming back.

Must **** off the haters that he retired undefeated.

 

Half of the Top 10 P4P fighters don't currently hold a World Title.

Calzaghe won some trinkets in weak division, and it took him a decade of fighting low-class opposition to do so.

The only great fighter that Calzaghe ever fought, was a 43 year old Hopkins. And that ended in a highly disputed split decision.

There are some good wins on Calzaghe's resume. But the plodding path which his career took, leaves it open to doubt and criticism.

The fact that some people went for Lacy to win shows me how week his opposition was. Lacy was overated before he beat him. Shika should be Lacy's first loss. But the fact that Cal beat old Hop and kessler shows how decent a fighter Cal was. HOF fighter easy. He did it the cheap way but still pretty hard to do. What sucks with Cal was he had a chance to join the ATG fighters but didn't want to risk his O. A rematch with b hop, then pavlik (which he would have won easy), abraham, froch (another easy fight) then finish off with dawson. he was pretty close to imortality.

 

It's quite easy to pick holes in the careers of almost any great fighter.

Ali? Please, he won the title from a quitter. Fought the leftovers of quitter Liston like Patterson. Got lucky against Cooper and was revived with illegal smelling salts. Lost to the mediocre Norton and should have lost two of the trilogy. Lost to Spinks. Let any opponent of a current fighter quit like Liston and then let hte current fighter claim he is the greatest and hate threads will appear allover the place.

In ten years from now, there will be proper appreciation for the incredible consistency of Caltaghe's career. The guy won every fight since he was 17 years old. Find athlete in any sport who are undefeated from age 17 - 36. Some great fighters have more impressive singular wins and also losses to lesser fighters. Some have perhaps not the greatest ATG on their record but consistency, always finding a way to win. Both can make a fighter great.

I understand what you're saying; it's easy to pick holes in any fighters resume. But its logical to conclude that Calzaghe was only unbeaten, because he fought low-class opponents over a long period of time.

Evander Holyfield has, what, nine losses on his record - no one could dispute that he was great fighter. Losses don't disqualify you from that status, in the same way that an undefeated record doesn't automaticallty make you an ATG.

The best wins on Calzaghe's resume are over good fighters, rather than great ones. To be the man, you got to beat the man. To be great, you've got to beat greats (waiting until they are shot-to-**** or fast approaching their mid-40's doesn't count).

Calzaghe was a very good fighter. Nothing more than that.

 

Cant see him ever coming back.

 

Calzaghe is the greatest SMW of all time, at least right now. Whoever wins the Super 6 tourney I would put them ahead of Calzaghe.

I do think that Calzaghe is retired for good.
