Just watched Bivol vs Canelo again to see if i can see any way Canelo beats Bivol in the rematch at 175 (if it happens). Canelo took some massive bombs and never seemed hurt or buzzed. The combo in round 5 showed Canelo's chin is granite he ate bombs walked back to the ropes ate more bombs the called Bivol on. Don't see a way he wins the rematch with a very confident Bivol coming knowing how to beat him. Canelo should move up to HW and test his chin against Wilder
I've seen him stunned several times, against Bivol, GGG, Kovalev, Jacobs and of course the other Cotto. His chin is solid, but not granite. However, due to his incredible defense, head movement and survival skills, it's next to impossible for an opponent to follow up when they have him hurt.
I dont think hes ever been in with a huge puncher. Would love to see David Lemieux or Artur Beterbiev plant one on his chin. Yea, hes getting KOed.
Canelo seems to have a good chin since his neck grew to the size of a roided rugby player, but we can't forget he got hurt by Cotto's little brother or whoever that midget guy was. So there's a bit of suspicion in my mind as to how good it actually is and how much it's about his ability to roll with punches. For instance, if we take the Golovkin I fight. Golovkin hurt him on the ropes with a punch that wasn't actually flush. After that he couldn't land another big shot and Canelo got away. Golovkin landed a bit in that fight but a lot of shorter shots, not his big winging shots he normally KO's with. And he couldn't land flurries. That's probably why Canelo couldn't be KO'd by Golovkin more so than the idea he can just take the power. Bivol doesn't seem a big puncher at 175 and I bet he isn't even one at 168. Guys from that old 168 generation like Groves, Kessler, Froch, J Taylor, Abraham, I bet they hit harder than Bivol. Any of those guys pounding Canelo's face flush and I doubt he isn't badly hurt or down or KO'd.
He remains the only boxer to have never fallen against Golovkin having faced him twice. That said, he seemed hit by Bivol, a light heavyweight but not very powerful. The chin can deteriorate with age and the fights therefore to follow (Povetkin, Kovalev...)
Canelo's chin is solid, definitely above average, I wouldn't say granite though. The main reason why he has never been knocked down is mainly due to his good defensive instincts which allow him to avoid punishment when stunned.
Canelo has been schooled since aged in the single digits to turn his head rapidly in the direction the punch is landing - to lessen its effect, there are many videos showing his mastery of this subtle mexican skill. This is why he is rarely hurt.
There's no doubt that Canelo has a pretty decent chin. And there's little doubt he relies from time to time, on good Mexican beef.
Danny Garcia Fury (including Hughie) & Ruiz Jr have iron chins, sure they've been dropped but when you're getting hit by monster punchers it happens. Ali had an iron chin but was dropped.
I would have to very much disagree. Golovkin twice, Kovalev, Cotto, Jacobs, Mosely (yeah he was shot but power is the last to go) even Kirkland could bang. Two of those guys were praised for their punching power. Lemieux never KO'd a top level fighter. Beterbiev is possibly a different animal though.
I think so, his chin has held up to everything thrown at him so far. People say G has a granite chin but he hasn’t fought guys as big as Canelo’s opponents
