i had a debate with some friends the other day about Canelo and his supposed knockout power. I argued that Canelo's power is smoke & mirrors. a mirage disguised through careful matchmaking.. if you look at all the guys he's knocked out, who are they? almost all are chinny or not durable or shop worn or small like Angulo, Khan, Kirkland, etc. and all the guys who couldn't knockout like Trout, Cotto, etc. basically, I think that Canelo can only knockout smaller chinny shop worn dudes and if u put someone of similar size, durability, etc. he can't get the job done. thoughts?
Also, do u think if Canelo fought Jacobs, Lemieux, Saunders, Stevens, etc and every top 10 middleweight right now, he could knock them out?
He has Chris Eubank Jr power. Looks and sounds like the shots should be putting you to sleep while in reality it wasnt really half as hard as youd expect. Like the opposite of GGG whose little short shots look like nothing but you can see his opposition beginning to back away and wilt under these shots.
Canelo can punch, its one of his strengths Is he a huge puncher at 160, NO, but he's a strong puncher and he's accurate
Not against proper middleweights I don't think. I reckon against people his own size he probably has 7 / 10 power, which is good but nothing special. All his proper knockouts are against smaller fighters who are known to be chinny like Khan or Kirkland.
He can punch - I have no doubt. Is it devastating power that puts everyone he touches on bambi legs - no, absolutely not.
I don't remember Canelo landing anything on Cotto or Chavez that resembled the power shots he landed on GGG's titanium chin.
He's pretty heavy handed and explosive which can result in fighters getting stunned and hurt, plus he puts together his punches really well which increases the damage he can inflict. He's not quite as heavy handed as guys like Golovkin, Jacobs or Lemieux, but he can punch without a doubt.
