I'm not sure about this one. This is probably the most winnable fight for Cotto, I think. Angulo is a poor mans Margarito, although he appears to be stronger and carry a bigger punch, but from what I've seen..less of a chin. What do you think?
Angulo has a great chin and we know a Cotto of today tends to have problems with fighters that could handle his power and put pressure on him. This fight could be very interesting and close as Angulo gains more experience. But if Cotto uses his jab he could easily win a decision, but he needs to be on shape for 12 rounds. Cintron was able, then Cotto could as well.
Less of a chin? I haven't seen him get rocked or dropped so I don't know how you reached that conclusion. Either way, I think Angulo would be all wrong for Cotto. Too big, too strong, slightly faster than Margarito, and maybe a better puncher.
How so? Who has called Angulo a great fighter or the next coming of Julio Cesar Chavez? Care to explain yourself or are you just talking out of your ass?
Cotto will need more than a jab to win this fight. Cintron was at least able to gain enough of Angulo's respect with his punch; therefore, it made the fight that much easier for him. There was also rumors that Angulo was either ill that night or was having trouble making weight for that fight. That also may have contributed to Cintron being able to get the decision that night.
Nice analysis of why Cotto would beat Angulo. This thread has reached its conclusion now that the boxing experts have voiced their opinions. END THREAD.
U don't have to be considered the next coming of JCC and be overrated (ex. Maidana)...Angulo stepped up and got outboxed by Cintron...CINTRON!!! Granted, Angulo has good power, while Cintron has no heart and a pretty weak chin.
Control him with the jab, opening up opportunities to the body (something Cintron didn't do enough of) slowing Angulo down and possibly stopping him late. Probably not stop him, but win a comfortable decision. Cotto would have little problem out-boxing Angulo. Good enough?
I don't, @ 154lbs I'd favor Angulo. If there is one punch that can land on Cotto it's a "Straight Right" That's pretty much Angulo's best shot. I'm saying if he hits Cotto, He's gone. Does Cotto have the boxing ability to defeat Angulo using his skills, Absolutely. Now! make the match. I'll take Angulo.
im just saying that last night showed cotto could box, he outboxed probably the best technical boxer of the 154 group, he was controling foremans speed with the jab and using it to set up left hooks upstairs early and later left hooks downstairs, If he uses the same technique he should dominate angulo to a pretty one sided decision or maybe even a late round stoppage
