David Price has A grade power. Most HWs with that level of punching power win a world title of some kind.

Coming up the assumption was that as long his stamina, defence and punch resistance was at least a C+ that he would be a world champion.

But alas, his stamina was an E+, his punch resistance was an F and his defence was a D-

Simply way way below what is required to be able to win anything of note at world level.

The term glass cannon HW was made for Pricey. Nice man he is, but facts are facts.

I think David hits the hardest of the modern day Heavyweights and yes i think he hits harder then deontay but he has a glass chin.

I proper enjoyed David price on his way up...he won me so much money when I was a doley with early Kos...was gutted he didn't make it to world level.

But yeah...when he was unbeaten n had swagger the man could throw!

Old Pricey definitely seemed to have some power, but he was desperately unfortunate in one respect...he has a glass chin.

If he had the ability to take a shot, I've no doubt he'd have been a legitimate world champion by now.

Probably huge power that hasn't been on display in full for a while. I think he mentioned the surgery on his shoulder hampered him a little also. Obviously a more cautious style is going to impact committing to shots and leaving himself open.
You can tell he has massive power by the fact he dropped sturdy ranked/top guys with short punches. Thompson, Hammer, Povetkin ...
If he was winding up RH's like Wilder and landing, it would be a similar result.

With different management of his fights he could have won a belt probably. People who say he couldn't have, remember Charles Martin and Joseph Parker? It was key to keep his confidence up, if that had happened he could have potentially taken anybody out on any given night. But that Thompson rematch was a bad move in retrospect and then some silly decisions really, like fighting Teper who was a suspect roider, fighting Hammer unfit, fighting the Russian unfit, fighting Chisora on short notice. That's where the money backing comes into it. If he had AJ's backing, then the matchmaking would be different and a 'path to a title' would have been prepared instead of these gamble fights. And just think of the style match-ups too, Teper/Hammer/Povektin/Chisora are all small pressure fighters that Price admits to being a bad match-up. Then why freakin' fight so many trying to rebuild? Money, obviously, but probably killed his career. Fighting Povetkin was for the AJ fight so you can understand that, but the rest ...

Very intelligent post, I think probably the worst decision was the Thompson rematch and him choosing to train with one of his hero's Lennox Lewis who tried to change what had been a successful style for him to that point. Just a quick correction in that Teper was a confirmed roider, it was Thompson who was suspected/had a masking agent I believe. I don't think trainers like Lewis and Coldwell shifting responsibility onto him helped and I think his fights vs Povetkin and Allen he showed improvements. Small margins when you get to European/World level. Also you are 100% right about paths to world titles and having the correct matchmaking.

David Price was always a big puncher.
And power appears to be all he has left now.

Great power. He even put Thompson down very hard in the rematch. Basically 1 second away from his career being very different.

He has a shot chin. His lights go out too easily. Poor Jab Also has some sort of anxiety issue you can see his stamina burn too fast and his confidence vanish. He actually looked most comfortable in recent years in the Povetkin bout.

He was handled as a legit prospect and it blew up on him before he could reach the top. Unfortunately that leads to someone like Wilder who fights nobody to reach the top.

A couple of Price's early bouts, when he wasn't afraid to throw his right hand with full venom.

Vs the then still pretty tough Matt Skelton.

Flatlining Big John McDermott, the guy who gave Tyson Fury hell in two fights (unofficially beat him in the first).

Vs Sam Sexton, who gave Chisora a lot of issues both times they fought.

You can see his body language is different too, much more swagger.

Yes I agree that with some more careful matchmaking he could have nabbed a belt and would likely not be seen as the joke he is, even if he had taken a few losses. Confidence is everything, and Price totally lost his in that second Thompson fight. Had he continued to fight domestic level guys as long as Wilder did he'd have a ton more faith in his abilities (maybe misplaced) and I doubt we would have seen him get taken out by the likes of Teper or Hammer or even Chisora. Wilder was already 32 fights in when he fought Stiverne. Price was 15 fights in when he fought Thompson (and actually only has 32 fights in total to date). Wilder was criticised a ton for not stepping it up for so long but look how much better his career has turned out from a money and fame perspective.

Price has massive power. He just expends all of his nervous energy pre fight and is exhausted by the time he gets to the ring

He obviously hits hard, but his power is a bit overrated imo. Even with his chin, surely he would have KO'd a good fighter by now?
