Cotto is more skilled. Took less risks and less punishment against their comment opponent Daniel Geale, and despite taking one round more to finish him, Cotto made it look easier.

Cotto looked Smaller than Trout as well. Could it be perhaps Cotto was a small JrMW, and Trout, and Alavarez were good size JrMWs. Alvarez looked smaller than Golovkin too, similar to how Mosley looked against Winky Wright.

In their primes, Cotto fought the better opposition. To say Cotto was better is difficult to say. By fighting the best, you either raise you game or you get beat. I find it difficult to say G would have folded if he fought a higher class of opponent. I say he would have adjusted, but this is an opinion and I have been known to be wrong.

If you compare Cotto vs Golovkins performance(golovkin did better but both fights were competitive) but then factor in how much further cotto was from his prime and best weight, then i do think cotto deserves more respect than he gets here,

People forget the cotto that fought at 147 and 140. That guy was a warrior who regularily disfigured opponents and broke their bones. At 154 and 160 he started cherrypicking opponents and making demands.
Cotto at 140 and 147 imo is a slightly more rounded and better overall fighter than GGG at 160. Obviously Golovkin would have stopped him at 160.

Golovkin has been very very dissappointing in his last 2 fights. Not in terms of lack of skill, but lack of desire, spirit and agression. He looked gunshy refused to let his hands go because he was scared of counters. Not the mexican style destroyer he was made out to be, not against good fighters anyway.

Wlad dominated what is regarded as one of the worst era's in HW boxing. Holy fought in the last great HW era. Context is everything.

Could be,look I ain’t knocking Canelo as one of my fav fighters has been Kell Brook and I could say the same about him making Welterweight,Canelo is an unusual specimen, commentators on Box Nation said he’s an absolute barrel of a man, shorter than most but as solid as they come, height wise Golovkin is bigger, weight wise who knows, probably the same and aren’t like Jacobs on the upper end of Middleweight.
I’d like to see em next to Saunders actually as he looks pretty big n all.

Lol how strange is that you think that a matter of months can turn a defeat into a draw, why not just go the whole hog Herol Gee and say Canelo won?after all where’s the pride in a draw.
Let’s have it right you’re stretching a good competitive fight into what you wish it to be and just remember as your opinion counts for nish on here so why on earth would it against all those pro boxers, commentators and media who by consensus all had Golovkin winning not drawing.

That’s as fair as you can get, have to admit I was disappointed also and didn’t factor that about being gun shy, says a lot that he still won but that look of disdain he had against other opponents wasn’t there.

Seems to me people are getting the question confused.

The thread didnt ask who has more skills. The thread doesnt ask who is better p4p. The thread asks is Golovkin as good at 160, as Cotto is at any weight.

Personally, I think Cotto is more skilled.... I also happen to think that hes probably slightly better p4p though I think thats largely an illusion, but still, I do think Cotto is better in a p4p sense than Golovkin (which ties into him having the more varied skillset)

But, I think Golovkin is better, and harder to beat, at 160 than Cotto is at any weight.

Cotto won 12 title fights in a row. Golovkin has won 18 or 19 now? Cotto had a 7 fight knockout streak. Golovkin had a 24 fight knockout streak. Cotto has 6 losses in 47 fights. Golovkin has no losses in 38 fights. Golovkin is better at middleweight than Cotto was at junior welter or welterweight.
