do you think haye would be champ if he didn't have adam booth with him?

Esp when you've got it on PPV - you know what yer expecting then, it's not as if you've just passed by the channel.

 

Oh yes, should add: Booth is Britain's best trainer, imo. But DamonD is right to say the mix is the important thing. Booth's personality obviously meshes with Haye - and Haye does give Booth a helluva lot of credit for his career, more than any other boxer does, I would argue. Maybe Lewis was the same until the final couple of fights of his career.

 

I've always liked Adam Booth and how he's come across. I wouldn't go as far as to say he's the best this or the best that, but I think he's the best man for David Haye. You could have a great trainer and a great fighter, but it doesn't necessarily mean a successful partnership. It's all about the chemistry. Haye and Booth have the right chemistry for them and it works.

 

I thought Booth was very Naive.

The tactics were good but in the fight I felt he didn't push Haye enough and was working on the very big assumption that a) they were ahead in the fight and b) they were doing enough to win each round.
It was very frustrating to watch.

 

He says some mad **** doesn;t he.

Before the 10th or so, he simply said 'Clean. Clean.' really slow and sure. Like he was hypnotising Haye.

Darke said they wore blue t shirts etc because the motto for the fight was control, whereas against Enzo it was red t shirts.

I can see why Flint used to talk about his 'dark energy' lol. Works for Haye though.

 

He was right though.

 

I don't really give Booth much credit based on what I saw on fight night. His main concern appeared to be that Haye would get clocked. "Make him miss, make him miss". "

Haye should have been fighting all the championship rounds the way he fought the 12th, and the big man would have been out of there.

Exactly, and he's lucky that the Germans didn't buy off the judges for once.

 

You are absolutely right, every other decent trainer I have heard tells the fighter to let their opponent smash them in the face:thumbsup

 

There does seem something a bit odd about him - that can't be denied.

But fair play, he knows his stuff and knows how to control his fighter. One concern in the lead up was that Haye would lose his discipline and start gun slinging, yet he was almost too disciplined through the fight...... but there is merit in actually listening to your trainer - after all, that's why you pay him

I also like how they are willing to go outside the box and look at new ways of improving, rather than doing things because that's what everybody else does.

 

They work perfectly for one another. The respect they have for each other really is special.

But Booths dark energy......

He sort of reminds me of Mike Brearley....not the greatest cricketer in the world but he knew how to push peoples buttons, motivate and control...the T-shirt thing pointed out earlier is very clever, top marks

 

Brearley is a good comparison.

I was sort of thinking Clive Woodward in terms of his out of the box thinking.... but Booth is a better boxing coach than Woodward was in rugby.

I'm not saying Woody was crap, he wasn't...... but it was his man-management ability more than any coaching that brought him success (IMO of course).

 

booth never has impressed me. booth never corrected hayes mistakes in his first 10 fights. haye runs the show. once he lost to thompson, he decided to change his training. he went to america, trained with others etc

i THINK booth is a yes man.

i don't know but he doesn't strike me as anything special.
