You're in Germany against a Sauerland fighter, your fighter is fast and hits hard, your opponent is slow and doesn't have great defence, and all you do is stand there with your primary school teacher voice and say "Listen to me...." and proceed to tell your fighter to keep dodging around instead of throwing a few punches which would have been the more reliable approach.

The "make him miss" mentality has cost a lot of fighters when they should have won.

The truth is Booth and Haye got lucky that the judges weren't bought off, and that the opponent was doing absolutely nothing.

I'm not complaining though, because I know Haye's a very capable fighter and will bring more action in his next fights.

 

On this occasion, yes. The decision could've easily been much less favourable though.

 

Yeah agree with you on this one, there are times when a corner need to really read the riot act to their man to get him to respond but saying he needed a ko was silly when he was ahead.

 

Don't wanna take anything away from Adam but David would have won a world title with his mother in the corner!! He won a world silver medal and knocked out the best am's in the world with no one in the corner cos he'll tell you himself he never listened to Terry Edwards once in his life!!

David Haye is a supreme athlete who has got were he's got on his own IMO..Booth will be good for Groves though cos George needs to be kept calm and Booth does this very well!! Never get's excited in the corner at all.. Good attribute..:good

 

I think Booth has been quite important. He keeps saying that Haye needs to be scared to fight at his best and so he tells him what his opponents strengths are in order to get him focused. He needs to build the other guy up, so this is quite unique, as it seems most fighters are the opposite.

Booth is also very intelligent and cerebral, and so is Haye for a boxer. I don't think Haye would respond to your typical "go in there and do him son!" sort of trainer. He likes things to be cool, calm and collected in the corner and Booth provides this ambience.
