I said pretty early that Roach isn't the man, someone with advanced defensive techniques is. One the Mayweather or a Cuban coach as Khan stopped improving after 2 or 3 fights with Freddie. On the other hand ppl. get caught and you can't really improve your chin, it either gets better with age/weight, or not. But I could always picture a better coach than Roach, Amir has no inside tricks whatsoever.

Nacho is not a bad choice looking at how the fragile Jhonny Gonzalez turned into a controlled boxer-puncher.

Khan is so fragile he needs more than good defense, he needs black slickness, unfortunately that takes years to learn, Khan is finished.

Khan gets hit with sooo many shots he doesn't see. His chin doesn't help.

He's fast. Hasn't got the best footwork. Hits hard and quick. Counterpunching maybe? If Khan learned to use some head movement/reflex punching he could set people up for crazy shots.

Garcia's dad was right. He told Danny that Khan was getting him when he backed up, so he needed to stand his ground and throw back. Briliant against Khan, because he just launches himself at you throwing shots, then jumps away. Garcia was bound to catch him on the way out sooner or later.

Mayweather Sr. would do wonders for Khan. With his speed, if he could learn to fight in the pocket or at least counter effectively, he'd be amazing. Problem is he relies on high hands for defense, which impairs his vision.

Khan is an aggressive fighter in a body that isn't built for aggressive fighting.

He has the tools of a boxer type (fast hands and feet, a good jab, height/reach) but he has the mentality of an aggressive combination puncher. He just can't resist going on the attack. It's part of his personality, and I'm not sure if he can learn to switch that off and become more of a technical, defensive type.

Another part of the problem is that his defence simply involves standing straight up and shelling up. Garcia's looping shots can be dealt with by getting under them, weaving, rolling, etc, and Khan never does any of that. I don't know if he even has the reflexes to use those sort of defensive moves.

I do think he's gone as far as he can go under Roach. We saw the defensive flaws in the Maidana fight...and Khan was only a punch or two away from being knocked out in that one. In the Peterson fight we saw the same problems, and now we see him getting repeatedly clipped and then knocked out. He hasn't shown improvement, and that's worrying. I don't really know which trainer would be good for him, though -- maybe Steward?

The bit about Garcia's dad is interesting, because it reminds me of the Peterson match. In the first round, Peterson was trying to do the same thing as Garcia -- timing Khan with a left-hook counter as Khan rushed in. He wasn't able to get proper leverage on it, though, and he ended up tripping and going down because of the way he pulled back, so he changed his strategy. Garcia, on the other hand, was able to succeed. It seems like the best way to counter Khan is to stand your ground and let the shot go, which Garcia showed in that third round. Every opponent Khan faces from now on will try the exact same thing.

Roach can't seem to fix his guys problems anymore. He had James Toney who was a great defensive fighter. But since then his guys have looked, errr... average to say the least when it comes to protecting themselves against guys who are fundamentally sound(Bradley, Marquez, Garcia, Peterson)
