Do you think it's better for Cormier to keep the ifght on the feet?

Frank Mir is the best heavyweight submission artist of all time as evidenced by his kimura of Nogeuira. Daniel Cormier absolutely wants to keep this fight standing at all times - much like Daniel's fight with Jeff Monson.

 

No doubt. No point playing around with Mir's ground game unless 100% necessary.

It's better for any fighter facing Mir to keep it on the feet. Mir has a horrible chin, horrible striking and horrible cardio but he has world class JJ. No brainer.

 

Even if you can beat a guy on the ground and I don't doubt cormier can why give an opponent a chance he wouldn't otherwise have.

 

I think Cormier will be confident 100% wherever he takes it.

 

It depends really. I think everyone knows that if he keeps it on the feet he's going to blast Mir eventually, however if he really wants to prove a point he might do it, just to show he's better in every way. It's dangerous though, as the one thing you can't fault Mir on is his BJJ.

 

I think Cormier can be confident in his wrestling and I suspect he is a better pure wrestler/grappler (minus subs) than Frank. Mir is not at his optimum weight, isn't the fittest or the most active BUT if you dare leave a limb in a precarious position then he will not hesitate to go home with it. Cormier seems fast and powerful on his feet, Franks got good striking but again he isn't at his best weight so he isn't at his most agile, fittest, fastest. Most importantly Franks brain tends to freeze as soon as he is in a sticky situation.

My thoughts are where ever this fight goes and what ever happens Mir loses.

Ill explain - on the feet Cormier is the better striker, on the ground Cormier is the better overall grappler, if for some unknown reason Cormier has Mir on top of him it will be because Mir has dropped him (Kongo) and he will literally have to be seeing stars for Mir not be reversed and thrown to his back in a split second.

Mir for an accomplished back belt has a week guard, Brock Lesnar underlined that!

Cormier can knock him out, he can jab him to a decision, or he can pound him out, unlikely Cormier will tap him but this is MMA you never know.

Mir has little to no chance of finishing Cormier IMHO

 

Are you referring to Mir being over weight at 260+ ? Because I would have to agree with you

Mir naturally is 235-240 thats his optimum weight IMO

 

Franklin has the power to knock him out. Mir is a big puncher unlike anyone that Cormier has ever fought before, Monsoon and Barnett have never Ko'd anyone. Arlovski's chin withstand trading punches with bigfoot and go the distance. Oveereem is the only guy with a worse chin than Arlovski.

Barnett was landing some good clean power shots but has little punching power. What if that was Mir landing

 

Yes. He is clearly a big bloke but despite all his achievements, I don't think we ever saw the best Frank Mir, at least on a consistent basis from round to round or fight to fight. I'm sure there are a number of reasons i.e. lack of motivation, motorcycle accident, big era (Brock, Carwin) etc but Frank at 235 with a focus on striking and grappling from the start would have been interesting.
