Seems like he meant to write 44-0 with implicit omission of Hopkins and RJJ?

I read it as though he meant that most guys could have beaten the majority of his opponents.

He'll have to come and clear things up, but I think he was referring to Bernard and Kessler.

After reading the comments regarding the Mitchell fight, I went and watched it again. I've not seen that fight in a long time.

yep, joe literally turns to the ref when he realises his punches have no effect, asks him to stop it, and the ref complies.

Its a literal "why havent you done what i pay you to do" look

It was very exciting but also very scrappy.

I think Dave Parris definitely stopped it too soon, but I think that Joe was on top there.

I actually started screaming when Howard Foster stopped the Froch-Groves fight.

that had some similarity to it, only that Froch didnt ask for it to be stopped, which is a fundamental difference. Also it was clear Froch was hurting Groves with single punches, not throwing forty weak Calzaghe forearm punches, and that Joe had been knocked down just a minute earlier, whereas Froch hadnt been floored by groves for 6 rounds. It is clear Joe was looking for a way out when he turned to the ref and asked him to help him.

post prime Froch of course later proved beyond doubt that prime Groves had no chance of avoiding getting koed against froch, and that the ref was likely right. 100% doubt free.

We will never know if prime Calzaghe could have really stopped a retiring Byron Mitchell, or if retiring Byron would have koed prime calzaghe in 2.

Only if you have enough speed and don't like sitting on or turning your shots. Far greater percentage of people would be better suited to go all out Salido/Margarito/Santa Cruz, as long as you can handle the heat.

What's more revealing after the fight is that even when questioned about it, Calzaghe calls the interviewer out for being bias in his point of view, then calls for a big unification fight that he's been waiting for some time for, calls out Bernard Hopkins as well, completely destroying the idea that Calzaghe got Hopkins at the right time. Clearly this was a fight Joe wanted years and years before it ever materialised.

I would have liked to have seen an earlier fight between Joe and Bernard. It would have been very intriguing. Because I don't think Bernard would have needed to feign injury in order to gain a rest. I know that Frank W tried to get Joe the fight back then, but the truth is, Joe needed to go to the U.S. to raise his profile before calling for fights like that. Bernard was never going to move up to SMW and fly to Wales to fight an awkward southpaw who was relatively unknown, unless he'd have gotten paid huge money to do so.

I think he really missed the boat with Showtime. He really impressed in his last few fights for them, but he wouldn't fight in the U.S. when they wanted him to. That was his choice, but there were some decent names up at LHW at the time. In my opinion, it showed a lack of ambition to remain at SMW when he knew Ottke wouldn't fight him, especially as he struggled so badly to make weight.

Calzaghe agreed to go to America to face Hopkins all those years back and you know that and have sen the links. Hopkins wasnt going to Wales. Calzaghe agreed to go to America and im sure Calzaghe was well enough known seeing Hopkins was considering facing B Mitchell at SMW

There's an entire "highlight" reel of Joe Cal getting British stoppages. The Manfredo one is likely the worst of the bunch, though.
