But you have to remember that this was his SECOND pro fight against a veteran where he was still trying to adjust. It was surprising to see how slow and tentative he started but then finished on strong. Whitaker already had 14 fights prior to Ramirez so he already knew how to fight like a pro for 12 rounds. Loma-Salido, no matter how you put it, was still controversial with Salido urposefully missing weight and constant low blows with a corrupt ref by his sid. Loma had a lot stacked against him and he still made it close where it could have went his way.
I don't dispute that at all , there's close fights that can go either way and then there's robberies. Thats the distinction between the two fights were talking about. The argument was Loma being the most skilled boxer to ever live. Don't really think you can say that about any boxer.
Sometimes I find myself rooting against guys like Loma, G and Kov because of their over the top fans. Understand, these guys are top notch fighters and would acquit themselves in any era of the sport and I want nothing more than to see them flat on their backs unconscious. But then, reality hits and I let my emotions settle and I become more unbiased and all is right in the world. As far as Loma, he is an incredible talent and deserves much praise.
Yes he has a great style, i hope he reigns in the showboating a bit cuz im not a fan of that. Some fans on forums like this get a bit carried away with hype but you get that with every good fighter. He is great to watch though.
I was just responding to another poster that claimed that Loma’s skills was not worth mentioning among other past fighters. I don’t think hes the most skilled fighter that’s ever lived but I also don’t think it’s an insult at all to mention his skills along with great fighters such as Duran or Pea. His overall boxing ability and skills should not be denied.
