Do you think Machida could be Anderson's successor at 185?

    The guy drank water before getting on the scale 48hrs ago, and was still only 201lbs, and at 6ft tall is noticeably smaller than the biggest lhw's like Jones and Gustafsson.

    If Anderson is looking at a GSP superfight next year and then retirement, could Machida move down and take over his mantle as the best middleweight in the world?

    The best wrestlers at 185 would really struggle to take Lyoto down I think, and barring Belfort there's no-one there that could even hope to match him on the feet.

    I was thinking this when watching him fight. He'll never be champ again while Jones is around, he won't be a perennial no. 2 either, because I think he'd be trading losses with some of the top guys in the division.

    He could do some really interesting things in an Anderson-free 185.

    I would like to see him have a crack at the middleweight division. If he can get down there comfortably, it's tough to see him not being bad news for everybody at 185. Most wrestlers at 205 can't even do **** all with him. :lol:

    I don't think Machida will beat Jones, but I wouldn't write him off completely.

    I think Machida could become a perennial no 2, as I can't see who'd beat him in that division now. Shogun is not the fighter he was when he beat Machida, and the other contenders (Gustafsson, Davis, L'il Nog, Rashad) are not as good as LM, no chance.

    I really hope to see this happen the only question is though obviously Machida will be facing Hendo/Jones next and if he loses that fight and Silva decided to either move up/retire how much would Machida really have left ? Sure he looks good now but he is like 36 and a potential beatdown vs the Champ wont help. I would love to see it though because he is still so quick and agile for a 205er imagine him at 185. Even if is Jones that Machida faces agian I wouldnt write the guy off. Last night Machida seemed to have that aura and that look in his eyes that I hadnt seen in many years. Machida at his best both mentally and physically IMO can beat anyone.

    I agree. I thought Machida looked superb last night. Confident, fast, powerful and agile. I liked that he didn't get impatient with Bader. Instead he taunted Bader, made him uncertain with some quick strikes, and waited for him to get reckless. And as soon as Bader rushed in swinging for the first time, Machida stood his ground and laid him the **** out with a beautiful power punch that Bader never saw coming and ran right into. :yep

    Would be great to see him down at MW against Chael after all the **** he was talking assuming Sonnen can rack up a few decent wins.

    Obviously it would never happen obviously but I think Machida/ Anderson Silva would be a fantastic fight.

    Well, that's all up to Steven Seagal. If Master Seagal makes the call, then Machida Son drops down to 185 and it's face punts for everyone.

    If Machida was drinking water before he got on the scales, I think he probably made a mistake while cutting and went a little too far. In my opinion, Machida looks a little bigger now than he did several years ago. He and Rich Franklin were the same size when they fought, but Franklin looked leaner.
