I don't think so (unless you're talking about people who routinely overrate him on this forum). JMM got the gameplan spot on. He will always give Pacquiao trouble (even though I didn't expect him to this time). Will other good counter punchers trouble him? Possibly, but probably not in the same way Marquez did. And just because they are good counter punchers, that does not mean they can beat Pacquiao. Pacquiao is good enough to overturn style disadvantages. The only guy who can beat Pacquiao in the 140lb-147lb range (aside from JMM, depending on how you scored the bout) is Mayweather.
So Marquez judging by most of these comments. Manny is ****. And Marquez deserved to win all 3 fights ( but only just as they were all close fights) SO Marquez shouldnt really get much credit for only just beating a **** Boxer like Manny who has been carefully managed. Correct?
well how he fares in fantasy fights will now be worse than ever (not that he ever fared well except maybe in the eyes of true nut-huggers) but his accomplishments still stand out as the most impressive the past decade for any fighter.
speaking of hearns.....you are only as good as your last fight....especially in the day of forum 24/7 overblown critics.... heres how hearns would have been looked at on ESB back in the 80's 1980 Thomas Hearns KO2 Pipino Cueavas LEGEND This content is protected 1984 Thomas Hearns KO2 Roberto Duran LEGEND This content is protected 1987 Thomas Hearns TKO10 Dennis Andries LEGEND This content is protected
I think Marquez to manny is like Hearns to Leonard. I think hearns would beat leonard more times out of 10 if they fought. And i still think Marquez beats Manny more times out of 10. However leonard is ranked higher because of other achievements just as Manny is ranked higher
Exactly true. You could do it with any boxer in history too. Ali would have been prie pickings for been overrated on ESB
Well, here is a prediction vid I made a year ago... [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peDTdpAN3dk[/ame] I used to think Manny could eke a decision by forcing FMJ to be too concerned with defense to mount a sustained offense, but now...Manny doesn't stand a chance, outside of a grand slam shot, or a bs decision...yeah, styles makes fights, no doubt, but every thing JMM can do in there against Pac, FMJ can do better.
unless pac comes like a daredevil, like when he fought barrera and jmm (1st round 1st fight)....pac has a chance to overwork and even knockout pbf.... but if he fights technically with floyd, like he did to jmm....no chance in hell pac wins...
FMJ is completely differant. He potshots with the same shots (Straight Right and Left Hook) JMM is much better at coutering with a range of combinations to body and head. But they are completely differant styles. However floyd is much better defensively, but i'd say he doesn't counter with anywhere near the same style. Manny will have trouble i agree but i wouldn't let what marquez can do make up your mind
Marquez has better positioning against southpaws, maybe a better counter puncher, but otherwise yes it should be a shutout
