Instead of talking guaranteed purses, why not talk about ACTUAL purses? My impression is that Marquez was asking for $5M flat. Margarito, Hatton and Cotto all got a cut of the PPV sales as well, and all of them ended up making well over $5M. Even as such, all of this ignores the fact that Arum didn't even make a counteroffer. If he was interested in negotiating, he would have negotiated. That's how these things work. Everyone names their pie in the sky price in the first offer, knowing that in the course of negotiations the final result will be substantially lower.
Tip: You are not paid high money because you have 'skills' You are paid because you are a draw - meaning you have fans that are willing to pay to see you fight either via PPV or live gate. Hatton is not the most skilled boxer but his live gate and PPV numbers dont lie. He "deserves" 3 times what JMM deserves even though JMM has 3 times the boxing skills. You guys should never enter the business side of boxing.
of course they would make more....two action packed fighters with a grudge and history......****, put floyd up there with a b or c level fighter and he wont sell ****...floyd has always needed popular names...just like when he use to beg for ppv's and finally got one vs gatti....
$5 million flat is absolutely acceptable if this is indeed what Marquez asked. However, I don't think this is the case and I don't think GBP will agree to Pacquiao getting all the shares in the PPV sales. If GBP thinks this is going to be a huge PPV fight, they could just ask $2 or $3 million for Marquez (similar to his guaranteed purse vs. Floyd) and take a bigger upside in the PPV sales.
$1.4 million was all he got as the Katsidis fight was not on PPV. In addition to the guaranteed purse, he will also get an additional cut from PPV sales with a Pacquiao fight.
Marquez received $3.5M flat for Mayweather - he had no piece of the PPV upside. That's why I suspect it was an offer for $5M flat. If it was $5M guaranteed plus a piece of the upside, I agree that's too high, but it's not so stratospheric that you just don't even bother making a counteroffer.
JMM already lost 2x to Pac, Made $4mil against Floyd and lost to him. At most, he deserves $3.5 mil for another crack at Pac.
its all good business sense , If he didn't offer a salary commitment then they may want to to pay him only 1.5 and the fight gross way beyond it was expectants he knows the business of boxing. Why let Arum dictate how much he will make. He deserves 8 mil if your asking me!!
Agreed. Not sure but I think they asked GBP to make another offer. I also read that if GBP really wanted this fight, another option will be for them to guarantee Pac a flat purse of $22.5 million or the amount he earned from the Margarito fight. It will be the other way around then, instead of TR making a guarantee for Marquez.
You would think it would be smarter just to give JMM 5m flat without share of ppv. At this point pac is selling fights pretty well with his name alone and if margarito made 6 million in the end then giving JMM 5mill will actually earn top rank more money will it not?
wtf :huh margarito got payed 6 million.of course jmm should have got the 5 amilli are you kidding.margo gets 6 and jmm cant even get 5 ? :-(
Pacquiao $15 Million vs. Margarito $3 Million Pacquiao $12 Million vs. Clottey $1.5 Million Pacquiao $7.5 million vs. Miguel Cotto $4 Million Pacquiao $12 million vs. Ricky Hatton $11 Million Pacquiao $6 Million vs. De la Hoya $20 Million Pacquiao $3 million vs. David Diaz 800k Pacquiao $2.5 Million vs. Juan Manuel Marquez 2 $500K Pacquiao $650.000 vs Juan Manuel Marquez $500k If this is true ... Floyd Mayweather last 4 fights all paid him over 25 + mil each all at the MGM GRAND . And Arum wanted to offer him 20 mil to fight Cotto ...what the hell ,Iv'e been making 25 + and you want offer me 5 mil less are you fawknhg crazy why the hell do you think I left TOP PRANK YOU SKANK. ARUM IS HOLDING THIS FIGHT UP!!!!!! AGAIN I HAVE REPEATED MYSELF. Floyd is still the bigger draw it takes Manny many fights and lies to do 24/7 while Floyd sells fights himself.
