It hasn't diminished boxing. The less fighters who want the path of least resistance the better, but...

It has cheated boxing fans of a great fight between Cotto-PBF(if he wanted it). And PBF-ODLH II would have been okay to watch.

It has diminished the mainstream viewers perception of fighters, if they are aware that the man was a running man. Not that I care about those people though.

    From which point of view?

HBO will miss him the most. There were still some serious money fights out there and they would've losed to have cashed in on that.

Hardcore fans, apart from those that loathe Mayweather I think they will miss him. Sweet science and all that. There won't be any more missing him than supported him when he was fighting, of course.

Casual audience, I think they'll already have moved on, looking for the next shiny thing to grab their attention. And that's not a knock on the casual audience, just how it is.

I think its good for boxing now we can get down to the buisness of fighting the good fights at 147. The mans style was a bore anyway.

How can boxing not be negatively impacted? We are loosing one of the best pure boxers of our lifetime (at least my lifetime).

Go watch Leanord vs Hearns #1 that is greatness. To go from that to watching Mayweather vs DLH will give you all the insight you need to understand why many arent loseing a wink of sleep over his retirement.

yup, neither is Pavlik, or CHad Dawson or ne 1 of them. So for a short time yes, but if these fighters cross over into the mainstream then boxing will b fine

NO... Noone is over the sport we all love... I think that for one second Floyd forgot that... He is not bigger than the sport itself. :bbb

If he had not retired, and instead stuck around only to fight DLH and Hatton again; it would have been a disservice to the sport.

If he had not retired, and instead made an effort to unify the welterweight titles; win or lose it would have been great for the sport.

It is obvious that he was not interested in the latter, so IMO his retirement is well-timed.
