I'm a big fan of the sport but it seems a lot of fights from even a year ago are hard to find, and the only real option you have to study the past fights are ufc.tv and the "best of" for each years. There was a thing where they released the entire year's catalogue in a boxset of 2011 but it was missing certain fights, but still, for a historian, is there any real way to study past fights other than single event DVDs? With boxing, you have websites that sell a library of a guys fights all taped, which can be very useful, but with MMA because its such a young sport there's none of that. Is there any real way to look back on MMA other than the slim pickings that UFC.tv is currently delivering? They really should have the full archive on there, I can't really understand why they wouldn't. Is it something for the future when they could possibly bring out boxsets for each year or perhaps get their own TV channel ala WWE? It's a bit frustrating when you want to watch a fight from years ago and can't, the only thing you can go by is an article or a record, and hell even the records aren't official (look at Demetrious Johnson).
But the UFC DVD's sometimes don't even have the full card for some odd reason and you can hardly expect people to buy every DVD. A pay service like UFC.tv is perfect but it needs a bigger catalogue.
It would be great if they put up some old fights on youtube. The amount of times Ive gone to show my friends a cool cod or sub and it's some dodgy quality filmed on the TV from a phone vid is loosing potential fans imo Dont see why Zuffa cant have a quick ad for the next PPV then have ATG fights like Wandy v Chuck on there for example
Dont know how it is with the old or semi old card but you can torrent most prelims just like the main card
That I know...but let's say the prelim for UFC 56....g luck with that ! But even with now, g luck finding the FB prelim...at least to my knowledge ! Was it even aired somewhere ?
They do...In Quebec now at least one of the big TV owner, Pierre Karl Peladeau, finally got the message and he is broadcating the FX/Fox prelim in french(fight commentator Pat "The Predator" Coté) But it's a special cable channel that you need to pay to get( I mean pay more then the usual cable fees)....most of the time the Prelim are on those kind of channel ! We are the ****in milking cow of the MMA community(USA/Canada) it's ridiculous.... I swear over 75% of the profit probably come from here !
Here we have the live card with all the prelim fights on TV....but it´s only in a cable channel where you need to pay by month....
More or less the same here...except we need to pay for the PPV after the prelim...and do you pay a basic cable fee on top of that channel ??
Yeah, it´s a channel with 24 hours of fights, you sign up pay for month (R$40,00).....and then basically you have 90% MMA and 10% divided between BJJ things and Boxing/Kickboxing/Muay Thai. And they show live fights and all the UFC cards with the prelim.....
A lot of the DVD stuff the UFC does doesn't make it over here. They did a sweet (if flawed) 100 Greatest Fights boxset which I had to import and earlier this year they did this - [ame]http://www.amazon.com/UFC-Ultimate-Fight-Collection-2011/dp/B005QUQREM[/ame]
