Do you think Pac would have been better w/o Freddie Roach and a different trainer?

It seems that most of Roach's fighters have poor defense, in-fighting, and clinch work. Roach certainly molded Pac's offensive skills, but it seems that his training methodology could be the reason why many consider Pac and some of the other fighters under Roach to be one-dimensional.

Do you think Pac would be the same fighter if he were trained by someone else since the early 2000s (i.e. Nazim, Garcia, maybe even Roger Mayweather lol)? Do you think Pac would have learned better inside fighting skills and defense? I feel that Roach's coaching may be partly to blame for Pac's one-dimensional fighting style?

Roach is a great trainer and knows boxing a lot....so he is in good hands.
But....Pacquiao with a guy like Eddie Futch or Ray Arcel would be even better......

Probably not. Roach worked like crazy to add on to what made him great, and to avoid what gave him trouble. Before, Manny had speed, aggression, and a raw but talented sense of timing with his left. Now, he consistently gets lead foot positioning against almost all his opponents, can counter-punch well, is dangerous with both hands, can weave under punches, can avoid getting cornered, etc. Roach couldn't completely change his mold, but he made him good enough to do what he's done. Manny would not have simply turned into a conventional fighter within his late twenties, and to try to do so would have been a mistake.

Even though I think fighters like Khan would do better with other trainers. I feel like Roach did indeed get the best out of Manny. I dont think Manny would have ever been capable of being an elite inside fighter or defensive fighter.

Roach / Pacquiao are a perfect fit. Imagine pac under some different trainer that tries to turn him into a boxer. It wouldn't work , Roach stuck to Pacquiao's strengths and added a whole lot to his arsenal. So no.

No pac was very limited and incomplete before roach got a hold ofhim. Of all truly great fighters pac looks the absolute rawest early. Roach was perfect for him. Pac kind of sucked before roach. Now he is an atg

    clinching is illegal.

Its rediculous that trainers should get stick for not being able to clinch.

That like aying roach gets stick for not teaching khan how to head butt someone.

Ok not the same but as soon as clinching is hangled more strictly the more exciting boxing will be.
