Okay, a little over exaggerated but an excellent example of how the jab was used to dominate an opponent through volume was Calzaghe Kessler, JC averaged 46 jabs/round. Lennox Lewis who is widely regarded as having a great jab, in all his fights where he dominated, he consistently threw 30 jabs plus a round. Floyd does not use the jab to anywhere near such a degree.

I thought you don't use ancient record here?

Otherwise, we will be discussing how many jabs Gayweather actually landed against Ortiz which is I think 12.

One fight where he was fighting a very good counterpuncher and suddenly his staistics in that fight became a norm? Against his other 50+ oppoenents, and you will see that he actually is very busy with his jabs. He may not landing them like Mayweather but I don't think it was his intention at all.

Pac usually throws a feint or two, a slow jab, then throws a straight punch. The first 2-4 punches are decoy punches. His stats are skewed by those decoy shots, which were never really intended to do anything other than a decoy. Which explains why despite no actually landing, he keeps on throwing them.

I don't see why percentage matters most instaed of the actual number of punch that actually connects. absolute number is always more important than say landing 50 per cent of your punch when you only punch 18 per round.

Mayweather will always have higher percentage connect because he throws sparingly, and only when it connects. Otherwise, he keeps his philly shell defense and lets the ppnent commit. Then he throws a punch or two that would connect. But it terms of damage, sheer volume alone would cause more damage. Just look at Mosley's face after Pac and Gayweather, or Hatton, or JMM.

Actually there stance is quite diffrent as well. Both judah and corley had there lead foot on the inside and as well as aligned on there opponents lead foot so they can jab effectively. Pac prefers his lead foot on the outside so he can counter the jab with a right over the jab or a straight left. Judah prefers the shell and corleys arms are spread out wider where as pac arms are closer and tighter.

No, I don't think Manny can jab with Floyd.

Nor do I think Floyd can stand and trade with Manny in a firefight.

It's going to be down to who can impose his game on the other man.

I back Pac to light Floyd up with his firepower.

Sadly, we'll never get to know who is right, because your boy is a shitbag coward.

He can't. But who say's he have to. Floyd's not a big jabber himself and often leads with his right or left hook. Manny can lead with his left just as good as Floyd leads with his right.

Weird, Most people thinks Floyd would win via UD. Some say even a wide one.
Makes me think where the peds accusations came from. When all he did is beat slow over the hill and shot fighters in his last 4 fights. Of course except for Clottey who's a young and strong heavy bag.

None of these accusations were present when he was destroying guys from the lower weights.

No, Manny can't jab with Floyd. Someone said that Manny uses his left hand like a jab. That is spot on accurate. Aside from the sneaky lead left that Manny uses as a counter punch [meaning he slips under his opponent's jab and counters with the sneaky left hand lead], he hasn't done much improvement. I study Pacquiao and he is the same old fighter just with that added weapon. Floyd's key to defeating Manny Pacquiao lies in his jab. Floyd has a fast and stiff jab. He has to disturb Manny's rhythm, keep him resetting, and turning by using his jab. When Manny throws caution to the wind and decides to storm in, Floyd has to make him pay with left hooks and straight right hands. Manny will be defeated easily by Floyd because Floyd is taller and he doesn't have to be in the fire, in order to land shots on Pacquiao.

im not sure i heard roach or nacho or any top boxing coach for that matter, in any interview discussed statistics of their boxers and their opponent's punches.

    different opponents, different strategies.

when these people watch tapes of previous fights of their opponents, they arent counting the punches. they are looking for habits, bad habits their fighters can exploit. once they do, they drill them in mitts, sparring sessions, etc, etc. until it becomes an instinct. once their fighters see the "habit" in the ring, they take advantage, instinctively, without coaching.

statistics wont tell how a certain fighter will fight another fighter, especially a different fighter.

statistics are for people who doesnt understand the sport itself.

btw, what's with the sudden interest in statistics. whatever happen to styles make fights? whatever happen to breaking down the fight?

arent you the very people that disregarded compubox numbers?

WOW. 2 whole percent. And Manny still lands almost twice the power punches a round, so if he threw less and took his time, he's have Floyd beat in this percentage. This point works against you because according to the power punches landed, Floyd doesn't even average 16 power punches landed to Pac's 23.

 Duh. Landing power punches are Manny's bread and butter. But with Floyd, you have you worry about both his power punches and Jabs[See the Marquez fight]. When you consider the amount of power punches Manny has thrown against his last five opponents, he should've averaged more than just 23 power punches landed per rounds. There lots of other Boxers on that list that averaged more power punches landed per rounds than Floyd; but it doesn't mean that those same Boxers would average near close that much against Floyd.

Do you seriously think Manny is capable of landing 276 of his power punches on Floyd when it took him two fights to landed 214 of his power punches against a far lesser defensive Boxer in JMM?

He doesn't have to. All he has to do is land flush shots on Floyd to change the mood of the fight which isn't easy but if Shane can do it, Pacquiao can also.
