If Ricky never fought again he would have a similar resume to Thomas "Hitman" Hearns - Got exposed to the two greatest fighters of his ear (No shame in that) - Huge fan base - Fantastic Boxer On a personal level Id love to see Ricky fight again, hes exciting and compelling to watch. But personally Id like to see him retire, another defeat would tarnish his outstanding pedegree as one of the best Light welterweights of all time. Ricky has balloned up again, after losing to Manny Id have liked him to have stayed nearer to the 10st limit, but with so much weight to lose, time is not on Rickys side. His punch resistance seems to be faltering, he's not slipping punches like he used to like before he fought Kostya, ever since Kostya Ricky seemed contant on just bullying opponents. I think he will retire, but I think Ricky will fight again in Manchester/Wembley/Millenium Stadium and try and break a record for the highest attendance for a boxing match since God knows when
I think he should retire. He does not appear to need the money and its obvious he cant beat the elite fighters so why take the risk of another highlight reel knockout. you got to admit his took knockout losses were classics.
theres no rush for him to comeback is there all of the big fights next year will be dominated by pbf, pac, shane, williams , cotto even if he waits till late 2010 or early 2011 se how things pan out :think
let paulie get a wide UD on juan diaz in new york and have as a tune up fight for hatton, hatton-malignaggi 2....then hatton can have one last big fight...
Hard to say. He really has nothing to prove. His losses are to the two best p4p boxers of his eara. I think he can still win a world title at 140 and mabey 147.
I think it's entirely his call. I don't think he's on the verge of a severe health hazzard; lots of guys have survived much worse. Though his punch resistence is in doubt, he's still not far removed from dominating a legit top-5 opponent at 140 (albeit a light punching one). If he enjoys it, I see no problem with continuing. The way he treats himself between fights, more training camps may ADD years to his life. One or two fights to see where he's at and a potential Khan showdown would be a spectacle and he's in a no-lose situation - with a loss, he can just chalk it up as "time to go".
When he fell flat on his back after that KO, it just screamed retirement. And I'm sticking with it - he should hang em up.
he should retire he has no punch resistance compare tszyu monster shots and his reaction to his recent reactions hes ****ed
He has to work hard to get down to the weight before a fight and that takes it out of him now that he's getting older also has he still really got the desire deep down to want to carry on, he's been doing a lot of after dinner speech stuff and show biz type events. Its best he retires and enjoys his money and his health.
If you really break it down Ricky lost 2 times, and both losses came at the hands of 2 ATG'S...i think he should have a farewell fight and go out with a win and be proud of all he ahcieved.
he needs to go back and fight the first 40 something guys he did before he fought tszyu....he was impressive against those yokels
True. He was a boxer with limited skills who only looked good when fighting in his hometown with his mates Dave Parris and Mickey Vann refereeing. Once he got out of England he never looked good again. He was an overachiever and it's probably time for him to go back to England.
If he is set financially (he should be) then he should hang them up and raise his family because he is not going to get past the boxing level he was in.
