Hard to say. He really was never hit until he got older, and then he did go down easily. But glass jaw probably not. But not a great chin at all. A lot of people think Hearns had a weak chin, but Hearns took more solid punches than Jones did ever and I think stood up better. Hearns was just hit too much when he decided to go for broke. Jones always took the safety first tactic.
his chin is not good. Depends on what you consider glass. Khan's chin? I think it might be that he is not used to getting hit so he doesn't know how to respond to it very well.
I'm sorry, but this line gets trotted out all the time and it's a bull**** myth. Tarver scored his KO over Jones 14 MONTHS after the Ruiz fight. Johnson scored his almost 19 months later. 19 months, and training for three fights at light heavyweight is enough preparation time, don't you think? And no, i don't see Jones getting hit with that many power shots earlier in his career. Except maybe Lou del Valle. It's just convenient for Jones apologists that he lost all his fights after fighting at heavyweight. The thing is, after Hopkins, with the exception of maybe Montell Griffin, Roy was never really troubled by anyone near his skill level or any big hitters for a long time. When he gets knocked out, all the people who grew up thinking Roy was a god start looking for reasons: oh, he was drained after fighting at heavyweight. Well, possibly at a stretch, for the first Tarver fight (8 months after Ruiz), but certainly not for second Tarver or the Johnson fight. Face facts: Roy had a suspect chin. It's just that is was never tested very often during his peak.
There's a difference between having a glass jaw and not knowing how to react when hit, due to the fact that you aren't used to being hit. Sort of like Wladimir Klitschko used to be. He used to have no idea how to react properly when hit, because it was just so uncommon for him to actually eat a punch. Which is why Manny Steward starting making him spar for hundreds of rounds before a fight in order to get him used to fighting when tired, getting hit, ect....
Fighters with glass chins don't move through weights like Jones did and dominate, simple as that. Anyone that thinks Jones had a glass jaw is a ******.
Bull****. Look at the fights. Jones took flush punches from Hopkins, Toney, Hopkins, Ruiz and others. That's a fact. Just watch the fights. In fact, here you can watch a video that shows your ignorance towards him never taking a big shot before moving down from heavyweight: [YT]6UEtWnFFaZs[/YT] Bottomline, you don't go 10 years of fighting top opposition, some of which bigger than yourself, while only suffering one flash knockdown and never seriously being hurt until being 35 and having lost muscle to go down, without having a solid chin. A guy like Khan or Gamboa has been down nearly a handful of times before being the champion in his first weight division. That's what most call a glass jaw. Care to count how often Jones was down before he won the middleweight title? The supermiddle title? The lightheavyweight title? A heavyweight title? Jones has a solid jaw and never showed any durability problems until he got old and went down in weight.
Usual no-knowledge ******ed crap from you I see. This is the same man who rates VITLAY as having an iron chin despite the fact he's only fought 1 decent opponent in his entire pathetic career.
Yeah, I've seen that video before, and there's nothing in it that's convincing. I don't see any bombs landing on Jones chin before he gets knocked out.
