Do you think some fans of fighters like Rigo PRETEND to be fans of them?

someone like Rigondeaux is unwatchable to me, he is that boring, he throws punches like it costs money.

    Andre Ward too, Hughie Fury,
    Hopkins, and Mayweather were also..
    etc

I honestly think some fans of these boring boxers such as Rigo, actually don't even watch his fights and they pretend to be a fan of his when the truth is they are just as bored to death watching him as everybody else.

I think some people just support fighter who look unbeatable. They then quickly abandon them after their first defeat. Mayweather would lost 90% of his fanbase if he lost.

Hopkins is a fighter with a specific background and story that will always have fans.

I'm a fan of Rigondeaux. Does he frustrate me sometimes? Yes, but anybody who says his fights against Donaire, Kennedy, Ramos, Amagasa, Casey etc. were boring, is just a hater. I don't fault a 5'2 1/2 to 5'3 boxer, who doesn't rehydrate much if at all, for fights, and is always the smaller man, for fighting in such a slick, technical, non-face first style. Maybe Rigs could move down a weight class or two where the guys would be more his size, and maybe he would be even more devastating, but to me it's more impressive, that he has the mastery he has, at the size disparity he always has in the ring. He is always the smaller man in height, and weight on fight night. He'd beat the living **** out of guys like Gonzalez, Cuadras, Wangek etc.

true.. but it amazes me that someone on the level of boringness of Rigondeaux inside and outside the ring.. has any fans at all! Some people even claim he is good to watch lol!!! I honestly believe a lot of them are lying, and a lot of them are switching off the fights after a few rounds.

If you've listened to Rigondeaux's interviews in spanish he can be quite entertaining when he talks ****.

If matched properly, nobody would complain about Rigondeaux.

everytime Ive watched him I've been bored to tears like it was torture and usually turned it off.
He's never been in an exciting fight of the year type fight in his life and never will, he has no desire at all to entertain anyone.

Other Boring fighters such as Timothy Bradley have at least had one exciting fight ( Bradley-Provodnikov) , Rigo hasn't had one even.

Rigondeaux's defense is too good to be in a face first brawl. Even skilled opponents have trouble hitting him with any frequency.

why does he get dropped then... hes packing glass
Lomachenko has an excellent defence too yet he's still good to watch..
boxing would die if all fighters fought like rigo, nobody would want to watch boxing.

Orlando Salido is almost always in highly exciting fights, time and again. I still hate him.

Or, wait, am I pretending to hate him just because someones' opinion is, "he's a warrior if you don't like Salido then you don't like boxing!!!" No. I could care less. I'll watch him and give him his dues. But I'll be rooting against him.

With a guy like Rigondeaux, he is so hated by the masses on forums that the hate spawns fans. Because the hatred talk goes beyond what is actually deserved relative to other fighters being discussed. So you'll find yourself thinking, "woah, people are off base here." Then, naturally, you find yourself pointing out extremes and seeing where people are wrong and once the process continues, you find yourself a fan of theirs.

I never liked Hopkins but multiple posters talking repeated crazy sh*t to me on this very forum just because I picked Chad Dawson to beat him with relative ease made me actually root against Bernard with some small passion from that point forward...

As for people jumping off the bandwagon of a successful fighter, well, that is the way it is nowadays. Lots of folks root for someone who is successful because they feel some sort of association to them. So if the fighter they cheer for wins then they win too! Yee haw! Particularly on a forum where you can attempt to talk down or gloat to other people you don't know sitting in front of their computers.

I tend to have more respect and root more for the guys who are less appreciated relative to what they've accomplished, across all sports.

I’m a fan of Rigo and Ward. Ward moreso....when Rigo is “on”....like his performance against Nonito...That was a fun fight to watch and I had a lot of appreciation for just how crafty and skillful he was. Same thing with Floyd. When Floyd wants to throw caution to the wind and show out....he does some incredible things inside the ring. Ward is more of a craftsman....a subtle technician making slight movements inside the ring that you have to know what you are watching to appreciate. It’s the nuances that Andre displays that makes me a fan. It’s not very flashy but extremely effective

I actually think rigo has been boring since the donaire fight.. the fight agajnst arakama? The tall jap fighter was fun to watch to

But the donaire fight i was in awe at how good that fight was.. i cant believe people dislike it.

The agbeko fight was disgustingly bad

Nothing changed since I typed that. He still hasn't got hit much by a skilled opponent.

Outside the ring too? What are you talking about?

Rigo is a huge **** talker. It's pretty funny.
