No doubt the work-rate is a big factor as it is in any Joe Calzaghe fight, and yes body shots are my personal nightmare in the ring with my high guard euro style :yep Still, the jab was a major weapon for Calzaghe, and seems to be a much underrated part of his armoury. Whether he wins a fight with it alone is neither here nor there really, its a very good jab full-stop. Hopkins isn't a guy to get tagged with a jab given his movement, he always has negated a jab, so that fight didn't really prove anything Wlad's case is a little bit different, in that he has about a foot bigger than everyone else and has arms like tree trunks
Tarver would knock calzaghe the **** out. Where do you people come up with your reasoning. A >c , C > b, A > b, no doesn't work that way in boxing. Joe C. won a close (some might say controversial) decision on B-Hop and you think he would beat a Tarver who is settled in as a LHW. Give me a ****ing break. Tarver would simply kill Joe with the jab, and when he throws his flurry, Tarver would step back and knock his ass out.
Agreed, Calzaghe's jab is good and is a very effective weapon in his arsenal, as well as his high workrate. I have a high guard as well, which leaves open to body shots, which dont really hurt early on, but as the fight goes on the more they bother me, and one fight made me take a knee because for some odd reason my lights went out for second after a body shot, it was like everything just shut off for a second in my body, lucky for me the round was over after I got up and I regained my composure during the break. As you probably already know, I strongly dislike Wlad for many reasons, but I also have gone on record in saying that he has the best jabs I have ever seen at Heavyweight, and he's one of the few fighters that can win a fight with strictly his jab, and has proved over the last couple fights against Brewster and Iggy, who were 6'1 and 6'2.
Tarver's hand speed and foot speed isn't as bad as you make it out to be. The guy just throws punches very awkwardly and that misleads people into thinking he's not hitting hard or fast with his punches. Watch the Woods fight again. His foot speed, hand speed, and overall movement in the ring was noticeably improved over his last few fights.
