that is true, some of the best fighters in history had fathers that boxed and didnt succed(the jones, the mayweathers) and the sons of those legendary fighters turn pro and start well but when they step up they usually fall short. monzon has a son that was schedule to fight tony mundine a couple of years ago and didnt necessary do quite well in his carreer

Its a proven fact that it does. The body adapts to violence even within one generation or even within one's lifetime when a youngster starts fighting at an early age. The more generations and gene pools adapted to fighting the more prepared an infant will be. All survival adaptations depend upon ancient and numerous phenotypes which are triggered by environmental exposure; which by the way flies in the face of any kind of accidental mutations.

Many great fighters that we watch today had fathers who took tremendous beating(s) sometime in their lifetime which all the more triggered stress hormones that would attach to their DNA which would in turn develope into a genetic expression(s)

Poverty is the key. Fighting for respect or for valuables, like in the Barrios and Ghettos of the U.S will produce a lot of good fighters. Eastern Euros, and Russians fought for food growing up, that is prolly a whole new realm of toughness, and the results are coming to fruition now.

I would say culture and living circumstances have a lot more effect than do ancestral genes or personas.

Id have to agree that this seems a better explanation.

There are just to many exceptions to the rule to say that ethnicity plays a dominant part in the success of a fighter.

But then again there are exceptions to that rule. There are 4 japanese titlists right now in divisions historically dominated by mexicans, thais and filos, Japan has had one of the highest standards of living for several decades.
I dont think guys like Joe C, David Haye, Felix Sturm, MAB, Molitor, Danny Green Ricky Hatton have ever had to grow up in the Ghettos.
Even De la Hoya and PBF were apparently relatively well off growing up.

    Vikings? Sweden? Fearless? Tough? Strong?

 Most of the scandinavians I met were true softies.
For ages boxing was forbidden in Sweden as it was considered to be too violent for their touchy and sensitive youngsters.***gots can marry each other over there, and parents cant even give their kids a slap for bad behaviour(amazing, isnt it!).
Besides the scandinavian countries are overcrowded with millitant feminists and women's right activists. A true nightmare for any man who doesnt stem from scandinavia!

I always thought Mexican toughness had as much to do with all the altitude training as it does any link with Aztec warriors of old.

As someone esle stated poverty is the usual driving force and sadly in our world certain races are still more likely to be poor than others. Simple as that !

What's with all this 'Aztec Warrior' stuff anyway. How come most Mexicans class themselves as 'Aztec'? When was the last time you ever heard 'Tarascan Warrior!' or 'Tlaxcalan Pride, *****!'.

Anyway, I don't think having a 'warrior' background helps. Puerto Rico has shitloads of champs but it's a pretty new nation with Spanish or African descendants. While on the other hand, Germans have a long history of barbarian warriors who even the Romans feared, Frankish, New Roman Empire and Teutonic knights, Saxon raiders and hard as nails infantry in two world wars. And what is the end result of over 3000 years of the most terrifying warriors in European history? Sven Ottke.

nah, environment is probably number 1. Look at some of the kids of boxers that havent done anything special, its down to mental qualities that make someone want to be a world champ. I mean obviously physical attributes are important, but there not enough if the fighters mentally weak.

Conversely, a boxer can reflect his culture, regardles of actual race. Lennox Lewis personified Britain; No malice towards his opposition for the most part, but ruthless when angered.

The Taino, Caribe, and Ciboney indians constantly fought over Peuerto Rico and enslaved each other. The Spanish also suffered years of warfare and slavery from various cultures as did the West Aficans. However, it is my opinion that battle traits are mostly gained or lost within 1-3 generations; although long term suffering and selective breeding via slavery would probably last a while longer.

Mental states and upbringing play at least as powerful a role but any biologist worth his salt knows that phenotypic plasticity is a very real and powerful force

My post offends you? How? What's their to be offended about? That not all Mexicans are descended from the Aztecs?
