Do you think that Pacquiao is declining?

Don't know, one thing I believe is that he had a better shape against Cotto and Clottey than the current one against Mosley and JMM (especially Mosley). And that's not to make excuses from his current performances. I think he did good against JMM, much better than his previous 2 encounters with him even w/o the knockdowns.

 

He's not declining, he's just always struggled with movement and counter punchers which none of his opposition since the second JMM fight have had.

When he fought Cotto and he went on the back foot one round you could see the frustration on Pacquiao's face, calling him forward to fight.

No, Top Rank's matchmakers underestimated Marquez and Shane flat out ran. Put him in with a guy who will stand right in front of him, and you will have old Manny again.

 

Il'd say both Pacquiao is declining for sure, he's reaching his mid 30's which is a dangerzone and has many ring years on him on top of that.

He's not the fighter he was against Hatton and Cotto, but that's to be expected. Although he has been fairly comfortable up until the Marquez bout, he has still taken punishment (wear and tear) from much bigger guys in Clottey and Margarito.

That being said, you can still count the number of active boxers to give him a hard fight, maybe defeat him on two fingers.

I think a number of factors can explain his "declining"

* I don't think Pac is declining physically but his dedication to the sport has been declining. He is a movie star, family man, he does commericals, writes music and he is a politician all of that stuff takes time away from training especially if you go against a fighter that is dedicated to the sport.

* (This is my opinion) When I use to watch Pac's fights, when he use to walk to the ring he smiled A LOT. For some reason with the Marquez fight I didn't see a lot of that. I don't know if Boxing to him is just something that is a chore because it seems like he is just "Going through the motions"

* From now on they are not going to put him in with someone that is hungry, Pacquaio and Floyd has been cherrypicking for years. I don't ever see that changing.

 

actually, its the fire in him that has diminished mainly due to non=boxing activities..politics, showbiz, etc..

Yes! Pacquiao didn't demolish someone! He must have declined! Otherwise he'd have shown his improvements by KO1 against JMM! And he'll still beat Fraudweather who waited for him to grow old! A-A-And JMM 2011>JMM 2009! More ripped!

The difference is that the bigger fighters had the mentality that they were "bigger". They also thought, they were going to just out muscle him and that he was going to fold with a hard shot. Marquez knew what he was going into, he was on the back foot from the start of the fight.

Pacquiao fought a great fight, slipping and countering with his left and right hand. When he was younger, he was trying to hit the homerun with every punch, now he's more selective; but the explosiveness is still there.

He's matured as a fighter.
