What do you think? In terms of CURRENT skills and capabilities, how does he stack up against some of the best, such as: Nacho Beristain, Freddie Roach, Robert Garcia and Virgil Hunter? Even Ronnie Shields. I am not asking your opinions from the standpoint of historical bodies-of-work, just current capabilities. Second question: Is Peter a better trainer than Adam Booth?
I think sometimes its more about mutual respect with trainers and fighters. If there is a good relationship where a trainer means something to a fighter and a fighter totally trusts and respects that trainer its more like a cheerleeder who has a naturally gifted fighter. Im not saying these trainers cant train other fighters boxing techniques and skill but its more the relationship itself. Like Calzaghe and his dad. Calzaghes dad I dont think had even boxed before let alone trained anyone else. Mike Tyson had an amazing technique and skill set in the eighties but when he left Rooney he never had the same bomd with a trainer again and althoug Rooney had other pro heavyweigts after they never reached Tysons level or anywhere near it! Tyson believes in Peter Fury and thats all that matters. He does what hes told with him. He's up there in the top 3 heavies in the world. Im sure some very respected trainers have heavies who arent in that same position. When Tyson beats Wlad that doesnt make Peter the best trainer in the world, just the best fit for a naturally gifted fighter.
Peter Fury took an unskilled, unathletic bar brawler and turned him into a mandatory title challenger to the lineal HW crown. Anyone who achieves that must know a thing or two about training and motivating young fighters.
