Do you think the damage Fury and Wilder gave eachother substantially affected them as fighters?

I am asking as I just watched Jeff Mayweather on youtube make the comment that he they took too much damage and it ****ed them up.

No because I would honestly pick the fighters that ended up beating them to beat the absolute best version of themselves. Don't let casuals and stubborn fans who were caught into the media's hype and were brainwashed into thinking that those two were the best heavyweights of their time fool you. A prime Wilder got stunned by Eric Molina and a prime Fury went life and death with Otto Wallin.

There could have been something to that but a lifetime of PEDs/booze/coke and obesity did a lot more damage to Fury than Wilder, and with Wilder it was a combination of realizing he wasn't that good along with his psychedelic drug tripping.

It took something out of both of them, no question. More out of Wilder though because he got beat up worse and was handed a big dose of psychological reality as well.

To what degree I don't know but I definitely think it played a role. There was a total of 9 knockdowns in those 3 fights. These are heavyweights we are talking about. That's going to leave some type of lasting damage.

It likely did damage, especially to Wilder who got attrition-punched for two fights. Fury also took a lot of damage in the third fight due to Sugar Hill's genius 'big dog' tactics. He got tagged in that second fight two, people just ignore it because amazing Kronk and so on.

Fury complained of concussive damage after that third fight so he obvious felt something went wrong.
Wilder is nearing forty so that also is part of his decline.

Fury then took a battering in the MMA fight which also gave him some more CTE. Now he took a battering against Usyk.

So to say Fury is 100% right now is just being dishonest.

Even at the time of the first Usyk fight he was somewhat damaged as this was after the three Wilder fights and maybe more importantly just months after the circus fight disaster.

Yes. It completely destroyed Wilder and put a big dent in Fury. Hard to come back from that.

It definitely took some toll on the fellas, but more important aspects of their downfall, in my opinion of course, were:

-Finally getting out of the PBC witness protection programme and being found out on the top level in case of Wilder
-Taking easy fights, eating like a pig, drinking a lot of alcohol and sniffing coke in case of Fury

I do, and I said as much at the time (making a comparison with the Bowe-Golota rivalry).

    For anyone interested.

100% agree with this from @MorvidusStyle
Combine the above with Fury living his entire career in the worst possible lifestyle for an athlete and he is a very aged 36. I know it’s a crap cliche expression, but he now has the edition of Usyk living rent free in his head more than ever too.

Fury and Wilder definitely knocked something out of eachother

Fury couldn't sustain anything against usyk. I'm convinced Fury from the Wilder 2 fight would absolutely batter usyk

sure. But Fury was not obligated to fight Nnganou. He chose that. He could have fought Usyk in 2022 or 2023.
