Do you think the heavyweight contenders in this era are good?

The last great black prospect fighter was Ike...over 10 yrs ago so it's a no.

 

I don't like seeing guys like Mormeck, Thomspon, Briggs, and Rahman being recycled, but overall I'd say it's average.

Every era has their crossover contenders. Guys who came from the prior era and still find a way into a big fight or guys who come from a lower division or even 2, and somehow compete for the title. I mean Jones Jr and SPinks came up from LHW, and Haye, Holyfield, Adamek etc from CW.

What make this era so very different from all the prior eras, is this is the first time since the alphabet soup has been around, that the title/s have been so thoroughly defended, and in such dominant fashion.:think

 

Yeah it's very poor from not only a standpoint of competition throughout the division, but from a technical / skillset standpoint, and apparently with a decent amount of fighters, a dedication standpoint.

I also don't feel there's been a champ who's cleaned out the division in the last 10 years.

 

Wach no worse than Larry Holmes? Jean Marc Mormeck no worse than Michael Spinks? Frank Bruno no better than David Haye? :blood Get real.

I'm also not sure why you bring up the 80s

The question isn't what era is worse, it's do you think the contenders in this era are good?

i can't stand this era of heavyweights. it's the weakest division in my opinion. i have very little interest in any of the matchups there. it seemed like in the past heavyweights were like big middleweights and a lot more dynamic than the heavyweights of today who are mostly fat, lazy and out of shape, with the exception of a few.

 

In the modern era, it is better than the entire 80's and during Patterson/Liston's reign.

The 80's was just awful.

I do think in 5 years the talent will be much better.

Mitchell, Mago, Pulev, Haye, Chisora, Price, Fury, Wilder, Povetkin,Peter, Chagaev, Arreola, Stivern, Helenius, Botysov, Adamek, Chambers. there are **** load of good fighters in modern era, not only the Klitschkos.

I think he was alright for "easy money" and happy to enjoy a well earned and well funded retirement
