Do you think the ref favored Buster Douglas by counting too long?

Count didn't matter. Douglas was aware and followed the ref.

Don't blame the ref, blame Tyson for not taking his career seriously anymore.

Douglas kicked his ass and Tyson deserved it. For all the people to screw up that badly, with Tyson knowing the history of the sport and knowing what he should and shouldn't do...that is a huge blemish on his Legacy as Champion. Given Tyson's height, weight, and lack of reach for a HW in that era...to not train to your fullest is a huge mistake.

And Douglas got what he deserved showing up like he did against Holyfield. Funny how things works out.

Like Patterson said, "Remember what got you there."

 

If you look at it on paper, someone of Lewis's size should destroy all while a small fighter like Tyson shouldn't even be in there.

Ruddock took to much punishment in the Tyson fights. And so did Tyson. Tyson did think much of his ability at that point either. At least it seemed so in one of the interviews afterwards. He battled confidence post-Rooney. Post-Press-Conference interviews reveal this.

If there is one improvement Mike may have made in the Ruddock fights it was the use of the Right-Cross. And I liked how he started to go back to the body.

Overall, there was a great article from S.I. that talked about why Tyson fell off. His style that he used to get him the title was no longer there. He was seen as declined from a technical stand-point.


Tyson wasn't just some "Brawler,"...he was a boxer too. He turned into more of a brawler after he left Catskill and that made a difference.

If he didn't have the chin he had, the strength he had, and the ability to absorb punishment...so you can take off your glass heart comment...he would have been knocked out much earlier in fights and even quit during those years. He could have quit against Douglas but took his whooping. He could have quit against Ruddock, but kept battling it out.

Even Lewis respected Tyson after he fought him. He couldn't believe the shots that Tyson was taking. He said it was the first and only time his hands had swelled up so much after a fight.

I like both fighters so I try not get all crazy about the topic
