Absolutely. And too many weight classes, too. Get rid of the jnr weight classes. You shouldn't be able to change weight classes by taking a dump.
yes. there's a need for one official world boxing organization for the sport with one champion per weight class.
trouble with that was that very good fighters were totally avoided and could never get a world title fight being in the position of 2 good for there own good marvin hagler had 50 fights before his first title shot and he fought monroe /briscoe /finnegan / etc etc . at the same time if you were not a don king fighter you needed to bring a vault load of money or you would not get a look in at a heavy title shot. ideally i agree totally 1 belt holder / but say ward held the only 168 or 175 belt then with his track record some boxers would be 50 while waiting for a shot
I actually don't mind all the belts, especially since there is a general consensus on which belts truly matter. The concept makes sense. A council/organization/group is started, they try (and I truly believe they have good intentions at onset) to create a legitimate ranking system based on educated opinions from core council members, (the value of that list is based on the knowledge/reputation of the board/council members) and based on that, they set up recommendations on who should fight based on rankings, fighter availability, Etc. If all goes well, and if the fighters care about the opinion or the legitimacy that belt carries, (as in what council, what fighters held the belt, belt renown) then they can accept to fight for that belt. The cost/commission fees SHOULD pay for the cost to run the commission, which in turn re-invests some of that money into more accurately/efficiently managing their rankings, and communicating/managing belt holders. (that stuff costs money, let's be realistic) I think that some belts DO have value, just based on their history/pedigree. I DO think council members should be compensated, but they should be responsible for maintaining respectable, accurate rankings and protecting the legitimacy of the title. In a perfect world, this works. But commissions can become corrupt, and this is why there needs to be other commissions. The value of a title should change based on the quality of the councils management of the reputation of the title. I just think the opinion of some people matters more than the opinion of others, and some people know so much, that they SHOULD be paid for it.
It's crazy, because all the sanctioning bodies are essentially the outcome of disputes among boxing ****ysts/ a single governing body. WBA begat WBC then later ended up splitting twice more, creating the IBF and the WBO... the history is kinda interesting and funny...
