Do you think Top Rank has done a horrible job promoting Cotto-Margo?

I think he has done a very bad job in promoting it. He has done absolutely nothing to promote it. The fight is getting major hype in the Hispanic Network because of the Puerto Rico vs Mexico rivalry and even ESPN is doing its part by talking about the fight every day just about on ESPN NEWS but wow... I am surprised that with 9 days to go, there hardly any promotion out there for the fight.

I am sure that this will impact PPV numbers and Ticket sales in Las Vegas!

Agreed, unless Top Rank knows for a fact that the fight is sold out, and this fight will automatically sell 500,000+ PPV buys.

I think the word "****" is an understatment. I believe Top Rank has done a "****ing Horrible" job of promoting this fight to the general public. First there was the fiasco with HBO and not wanting to do a 24/7 series or Countdown, and with each passing day leading up to the fight. You hardlly see a promotional commerical, billboard, or major story about "THE BATTLE".

I'm not too concerned with the hardcore boxing fans knowing about this fight, but more so the casual sports fan. For crying out loud....Delahoya vs Forbes had more coverage for **** sake!

I know one thing if I had the power to promote this fight. I would've shelled out the cash for a promotional spot to air during baseballs AllStar game last night at Yankee Stadium, and some how put a huge billboard some where around or in Yankee Stadium. That was a wasted business oppurtunity if you ask me. Both Top Rank and HBO are being cheap, and it's ashame when you really think about.

If this fight plays out how everyone would like. Then the sport of boxing, Top Rank, and HBO would all benefit and make a killing.

Top Rank and HBO seem to be totally incapable of lifting their eyes off the pages of their accounting ledgers even for a moment!

You would think they would do more to promote this fight including put up a great undercard to get more hardcore viewers but it doesnt seem like they have any interest in it.

"Another thing that people have said about this one is that Cotto is not a known attraction here," said the source. "He's an East coast guy who hasn't fought out here since 2004. Margarito has fought here but he doesn't have a big following. Maybe some of his fans will come over from L.A., but I would've thought they would have bought their tickets by now if they planned on showing up."

"With the fight only 11 days away it's tough to say what the exact numbers will be, but when a fight is a hot ticket in Vegas it's usually hot from the get-go and with it only being a week-and-a-half away I can't see any way that's it a sell-out," he said. "We could end up papering the place on fight night."

    No such luck.

I think that promoters are very complacent and just rely on the existing fanbase to purchase the PPV and tickets to the live event but they absolutely don't do anything to bring new fans or bring the sport into the mainstream.

They do like a 3 press conference in 3 different cities during the hours that most people are working and we are lucky if HBO throws us a promotional program like a countdown or 24/7 series.

I mean HBO sports basically had to be forced to make the Countdown show for this fight.

    It's just ridiculous.

HBO itself is just as much to blame or more for the lack of promotion of this fight. The Bobfather had to raise hell just to get them to do a simple Countdown, so that right there tells you how little committed HBO is to selling this fight.
