Do you think Trinidad was ruined by the Hopkins loss? I don't see it.

I don't put much stock in this kind of talk either, unless it's pretty visible, or it suits my agenda, in which case I'm all over that ****.

Yes, what did Tito do after that?

    Beat Cherifi? Cherifi who???

Then fought Mayo who was already beaten in his rematch with Forrest IMO and against Spinks.

Not to mention fought him at a higher weight he didn't even belong in, Mayo had no business above 147.

No moving to 160 messed him up. He was always a natural welterweight.

Tito outgrew WW well before that. Even during the Campas (or maybe Carr, can't remember) in 1994, Steve Albert commented on Tito having trouble making weight.

He had gone to 154 in 1997 to chase a fight with Norris, but went back down to 147.

His weight problems at 147 were pretty well-known at the time, he could've probably stayed at 154, but 147 was too much of a strain for him.

Then why did he retire for 3 years after that loss? And he didn't do anything of significance since that loss except beat up punching bag Mayorga. Hopkins beat Tito so badly in every facet of the game that it had to mentally mess him up, to get schooled that badly.

He certainly was never the same fighter...but that had just as much to do with him retiring to a tropical paradise with millions of $$.

This is exactly the kind of idle guesswork that this thread is opposing. It "had to" mess him up. Where is the actual evidence for this? I didn't find any in the two fights that Tito had following this fight where he beat the dog**** out of his two opponents.

Kostya Tszyu was an undefeated world champion and rising star (and had less experience than Tito) when he got TKO'd by a massive underdog.

Marco Antonio Barrera was an undefeated world champion and rising star (and had less experience than Tito) when he got TKO'd by a massive underdog.

So Tszyu "had to" be mentally messed up by getting ****ed up by a bigger underdog than Hopkins was against Tito then?

So Barrera "had to" be mentally messed up by getting ****ed up by a bigger underdog than Hopkins was against Tito then?

Except pointless assumptions aside, both men went on to record their best wins and performances, and become HOF fighters.

This idle guesswork and assumptions have to stop. The video evidence should be considered instead.

I can readily accept anyone disagreeing with me on the basis of how they perceive the Cherifi and Mayorga fights, but not this facile guesswork please.

A complete nonsense of a comment to be honest. Mayorga was a massive welterweight who had to move to 154 because he couldn't make the weight anymore. Towards the end of his career, he was a gigantic lmw who blew up in weight after weigh-ins. To suggest he was a Zab Judah style welterweight (ie someone who had no business going above 147) is nonsensical.

I don't think it did, and I've never been familiar with the opinion that Hopkins 'ruined' Trinidad. Trinidad would have decimated Mayorga at any stage of their careers, and Wright would have dominated Tito at any stage too. The Hopkins win didn't damage him in any noticable way, IMO.
