Do you think Tszyu ruined Judah or was he just destined to be what he is?

  1. I often wonder about fighters who show a lot of talent and then have it all evaporate after a bad loss.

Apart from Judah, Jermain Taylor is an example. There was a moment in time when Taylor was the hottest thing going around. He'd won a Bronze medal at the Olympics, become the Undisputed Middleweight champion and seemed to have all the skills. Two rounds into his first fight with Pavlik he had the guy hurt and we all though it was over. Pavlik survived that barrage only because his lanky arms somehow tangled Taylor up and he couldn't get a final shot off. Taylor punched himself out in those exchanges, then he got his lights punched out. When he returned to the ring he was inhibited and these days he's fodder for anyone who can punch. I can't help wonder if he isn't "damaged goods" cause of what Pavlik did to him.

Back to Judah..there was a time when it seemed inevitable that he would be a P4P star. He had speed, power, skills & confidence. But it all went away when he got polaxed by Tszyu's right hand. When you see him fight these days he always shows glimpses of his talent. It's as if his brain is scrambled and he just cant do the important things at the important moments. I can't help wonder if, in some paralell world where Zab never fought Tszyu, he might have reached his potential.

Of course it's also possible that he was missing a link from the start and Tszyu was just the guy who happened to find it...thoughts?

good OP, think you have a point.

  3. So you think he has problems APART from what's wrong with his head? IMO, that's the ONLY problem he has.

" It's as if his brain is scrambled and he just cant do the important things at the important moments." :good Kinda answered your own question there. But just sometimes, no matter how potentially good you might be, on some nights just can't put it together. But I think Judah could of learned from his loss with Kostya, because if I recall, he was boxing Tszyu's ears off handily before he got Zab dancing funny. Both Zab and Taylor tend to lose focus on my opinion and do not or did not follow their corner's advice, wanted to do things their way, and then wonder why things went wrong. Talented as hell, but not bright at all.

destined. His chin was weak and Tsyzu just exposed it big time. If Zab was legit as a great fighter he would have come back and beaten Baldomir and then Cotto. He is just not that great a fighter.

Judah was just too small for the WW division. The other time he was stopped he was worn down by the bigger Cotto so I don't see the weak chin thing. He was an undisputed champ in the divison he was too small for and a titlist at 140 as well.

I think that Judah had deficiencies to begin with and this loss only served to take away a sense of invincibility that he had. His style is just one that cannot be maintained at a high tempo... so unorthodox!!

I also think that Judah needs to get a new trainer, but he will never even try this. He never seems to have a game plan when he walks into the ring... just does the same thing over and over and over and over

I think he just was never a true elite fighter, Zoo didn't ruin him.. he just fought in an era where there were better fighters than him. He's also not a WW, he was a better at 140.

Guy still had a good career and held multiple belts at multiple weights, nothing to be ashamed of.

Just because Zab didn't become a ATG don't mean he wasn't a great fighter.

In his prime he was a great fighter.Beautiful to watch.

He's a great fighter but, if he were to actually take boxing seriously he could be far better

Tszyu just took away Judah's belief that he was unbeatable.

No, Judah is who he is. Tszyu didn't make him that way.

Nah he cameback and became an undisputed WW Champ. He is a very gifted fighter with a great punch but is flawed. He just has the inability to fight a ful fight. Against Baldomir, Cotto, and Maywhether he was winning early like 4 rounds or so he is dangerous then something happens. He either gets tired or loses focus or gets away from his plan. He had the ability to be awesome just didn do it
