Obviously, he should have. But, like many fighters, he needed the money. Amazingly, he still picked up a few decent KO wins (Golota, Botha). But, it was clear, especially from the Botha fight, that he was greatly diminished as a fighter.
I would say no BC frustration got to Tyson in those Holyfield fights . Those fights actually probably helped him warm up to the ring once again. He also compiled 6 wins after that. The only thing he should have done was get Lewis in the ring before 2002 when the odds were certainly stacked against him by then.
from a physical standpoint I think he should definitely have called it quits after Lewis, he was still in good physical shape around the Holyfield fights, his endurance just didn't seem to be there. After Holy he didn't really take much punishment, until Lewis, once he started catching beatings like that he should have quit. From a mental standpoint he should have not come back after the Holyfield fights, his fighting mentality was gone, you could see he didn't want to be there. Its pretty clear that he might not have continued if he didn't have to. the young kid in his early 20s was a distant memory by the mid 90s.
his mind wasn't exactly stable then was it really, it seemed like the resent for boxing was starting to slowly set in already, I really think he hated the sport by the time he got out of prison. Holyfield does deserve some credit for derailing the hype train in 96, he gave Mike a dose of reality, as a fan it was a rude awakening thats for sure.
Fit in perfect with his story that wouldn't it, don't tell me....... he didn't train for one single fight after the Spinks win..... ZZZZZZ........
Tyson didn't really care that much after beating Spinks .... He accomplished his goal ... And he really wasn't that into the sport by 1990 by his own admission ... His career after Holyfield was just fighting to take care of his financial situation ... He didn't really seem to care and even came into some bouts intoxicated ... He honestly was done after Holyfield...
If he was content with preserving his record, but Tyson didn't care about his record he stopped caring about boxing and stopped caring about himself. There was alot of money to be made and it would be ridiculous not to cash in on that. I'm sure any of us would choose to get beat up by lennox Lewis for 6 million dollars.
Read he made $17.5M for that fight The same as Lewis Amazing that a washed up, drugged up, alcoholic Tyson who was overweight and not really training made the same as Lewis that fight.
Well that' 17.5 million reason to fight then lol. He was so gone at this point that I was surrised he went 4 rounds. Goes to show you he would have obliterated lennox when he was younger
That $17.5 million apparently went to Showtime given that he was in debt to them, he never really saw that money come to him at the end.
no, but Mike's whole success was based on weaving and getting inside after the weaving. When he stopped moving his head he had the power, but he was getting hit. It was a matter of Mike winning by knockout before he was stopped.
what surprised me about Mike after the Douglas fight was his inability to fix the moving his head issues. He stopped moving it and even after Douglas he still didn't move it. That is what got him his title winning in 1986. He just never fixed that problem. He was still an exciting big puncher, but it started to get more interesting.
It just goes to show how difficult fighting came to Mike, he was far from a natural. No fighter comes in to the ring in 100% condition, on here though Tyson is the only fighter to suffer from that fate.
