Do you think with the rise of Andre Ward and his ability to fight south paw and orthodox more young fighters will try to learn this style and will in turn create more pros who use it?
I think that it is a lot easier to fight southpaw then it is to pitch lefty so it might start to occur
Not because of Ward, no. Floyd did it in his younger days, DLH and Mosley did it more frequently. Solid well-rounded fighters will do it to gain an advantage.
No-one does it better than Ward. He can fight just as good either way. And Floyd rarely ever fought southpaw wtf you talkin about?
Plenty have done it better than Ward historically, but do young fighters really look up to Ward? I'm sure a few do but is he popular enough to be influencing the way they fight to such an extent? You must have missed this fight, where he turned Southpaw 3 times and corrected Lampley in the 10th round as he was fighting when he incorrectly said he had done it twice. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BtTjsi1qIQ Wasn't the first time he'd done it either. Nah just practice it. But if you don't have the fundamentals in place in your orthodox stance then you won't translate your success to your southpaw stance. DLH, Mosley, Mayweather, and RJJ (yes him too, aside from the guard) had good fundamentals.
I remember that fight... "mayweather has turned southpaw for a second time" "this is the third time mayweather turned southpaw" something along those lines. i definitely agree since Ward is a "boring" fighter, but since Virgil Hunter is such a good trainer I enjoy watching his fights to hear what he tells his fighters in the corner and also to see what his fighters do with his training. I also really like Ward because he is in my opinion one of the few champs that fights all the top competition. Makes sense tho I am going to thanks a lot. :good
