Do you think you could beat George Foreman now?

When George is 70 he'll still probably be able to knock out the average man on the street.

George was somewhat of a tough in his youth, and has said himself that he has participated in numerous street fights. So the argument any of us on here could beat him on the street is out the window, realistically we would all be pissing our pants if we had to fight Foreman even now in his elderly state.

I don't know why people think they can beat a trained fighter in a street fight even when the said fighter hasn't been in a street fight before.

Do people think that fighters are only very strong, tough people in the ring? Or do they think if say James Toney got in a street fight he'd really be looking to stand infront of someone and shoulder roll everything like he does in boxing?

No man in this lounge could ever expect to jump George Foreman today under any circumstances without recieving a massive, kingsized beating. Even today with him being what..64?..he's still like an old, powerful lion in the zoo..he could kill the average man.

He's probably still stronger than two ordinary men put together.

In all seriousness, I think it depends on what kind of condition he's still in. Of course I'd never fight him, but at 65 years of age and not having fought in probably 15 years plus living the good life, he's probably diminished to being a lot more ordinary than the guy who KO'd Moorer or destroyed Frazier... Sure he'd still beat the **** out of the average man, but its not unreasonable to think that a 20 year old lightheavyweight amateur could outbox him in a ring today.... I have no doubt that a punch in the face from Foreman will always hurt, even if he lives to the age of 85... But a lot of that power is probably gone, and given that he was rather slow moving even in his prime, today he's probably moving at glacial speeds.

I've sparred or fought most every heavyweight who meant a **** this last era, barring Byrd, Moorer, and Tyson.

And man, it all hurt really bad. Power comes in different varieties, asking a guy who hit hardest is a tough question.

Tell you one thing about George, though; Sparring partners for him made quite a bit of bonus money for coming back. You'd feel him for days.

It's those big hands. He has mitts like frying pans.

I'd bet money he can still punch several times harder than your average Joe or an amateur. Like I said earlier, a 60 year old Larry Holmes hit the heavybag harder than anyone I've seen hit a bag in my life, which includes active heavyweights out there right now.

Did he go easy or was he a Frazier or Hagler type and didn't hold back?

I'd imagine George Foreman could still knock me out cold now if he wanted.

Bill, I wonder how many other longtime posters here at Classic remember this post of yours about how deadly Larry's jab remained several years after his final retirement (from September 2007):

    http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showpost.php?p=486127&postcount=40

I've also seen how lethal a jab alone can be from long retired and aged top flight amateurs, let alone champion professionals. Foreman, along with the likes of Bob Gibson, Jim Brown and the late Wilt Chamberlain, are not people to be messed with, no matter how old they get.

To be honest, Jake LaMotta could probably still stop many of us.
