I caught a flu couple days ago. I didnt stop training and was up by 5:30Am on that road the next two days. It's chilly in the morning but I dress properly. Anyway Today I feel like crap. My nose is running and my throat is hurting. I did a little shadow boxing but I get hot felling all over my body imidiately and feel tired. I hate not being able to do my training but I guess it's better to get a little rest and don't push my body. What do you do when you got a flu? Do you still train or take a break?

Well, as most on here know, I am not really big on exercise, but in the past, when I was, I used to train right through sickness. In fact, I always felt better the day after training when I was sick. Especially if it was a cold, got the sinuses working properly again. But that is just me.

 No dude, it's all good. Some prefer to rest up while sick, others prefer to hit the gym hard. I usually get colds in the winter like most others. And when I do, the best thing for me is to go at the heavybag for a few rounds outside (where I keep my equipment/train fighters) and when finished, take a long hot shower after getting out of the cold weather. Does wonders for me.

Nope. I suggest you rest up, you'll recover quicker. Training while ill is just a bit wasted.

In most cases I would have to agree with you. But I believe that it ultimately comes down to the person, as well as the degree of training. If you are doing heavy, intense training for an upcoming match, then yes, I suggest that you rest up. But if just working out to keep up the overall fitness, then I see nothing wrong with hitting the bag for a few rounds or going for a short jog. But again, this is only my opinion. Others would probably disagree.

I'd agree that it's okay to do light training. However, you should never be doing just light training. :D :smoke

 Well sir, Im afraid that is the only degree that my training consists of. I used to be pretty serious, but then I met a gal, fell in love, got my heart broken, gained 50 lbs, you know the story. Now the only thing that separates me from Fat ******* is the red hair and Scottish accent. :rofl (Not really, but it is bad).

Awww... I fine point indeed. I forgot to mention, it also depends on how sick you are. If your puking your guts up every 5 minutes, then definitely stay in bed, but if less severe, then at least try to take a wack at the heavybag one of these days.

No you shouldn't be training when you have the flu. Here's why, your immune system is at it lowest straight after any training session, be it sparring, running, whatever, so you risk making yourself worse by training when sick. Also you are risking injuries as you're not quite with it when you have the flu and it is a lot easier to get injured. If you are going out in the cold to run you may get a chest infection too! I am a personal trainer and I would NEVER train anyone who has the flu. Take it easy and let your body heal.
