Do you use the overhand right often?

A shot I was always uncomfy with. I might start boxing again though: since I've been training I've been getting urges.

Anyway, I never liked the shot.

Even though I am a "Super Heavy" I am only 5'11 btw.

I personally have never used it, but have seen it to be very effective against people who like to cover up

It's a great punch. Most people just don't know how to utilize it. It is also typically the most powerful punch in an orthadox' fighters arsenal.

I am way too fond of the straight right. Modelled it on Tyson's. I am no Tyson but unlike some big strong guys, my power matches my strength – in my genuinely humble opinion.

Classic left hook is my favourite punch though. Man, I have been throwing that punch obsessively since I thought about getting back into the ring.

Problem to me with the overhand is that I telegraph it too much.

The overhand is better off set up first, i set it up with a slip to the left followed by a left uppercut while keeping low, you should be set up perfectly to land the overhand right, i find doing this i can make it come from different angles depending on how i throw the uppercut.

If you know how to throw it it can be the most deadly punch in the book. Once you get used to it you just do it automatically. Great punch.

  8. It's a great punch if unexpected/under rated.

Even as a half punch it's good, get them to cover up then duck low and stick your rear foot back and pop it over the top when they open up. Sneaky Punch that can land a lot.

    1. its an ARM PUNCH (with just a little shoulder on it and Definitely NO Hips), NO WAY the most powerful punch
    2. It leaves you OPEN more than any punch
    3. Easiest punch to duck
    4. Easiest punch to Counter

im not totally against overhands (i use it in some occasions, against a much taller opponet who doesn't pick his shoulder up when he jabs), but Boxing is about: Magical Jabs, Heavy Artillery (Crosses n Lead Hooks), Ivisible Uppercuts and Rear Hooks.

    You're not doing it right.

    You're not doing it right.

Not more or less than any other right hand. Try setting it up.

    It's usually a counter itself.

In all fairness Mixed Martial Arts can give the overhand right a bad name. Nothing uglier than a punch of helicopter punches.

so, dear expert tell me how you are doing it right, and how you are putting hips into the punch.

set it up with whatever you want all day long, it is STILL the EASIEST punch to Duck

so what, EVERY COUNTER-PUNCH has ITS counter-punch too

Its not an arm punch at all. Your not throwing it correctly. You should have all the weight on your left foot and be driving the punch forward with your right foot. If your just flinging your arm over then no wonder your not finding any power.

I can't do it right. It ends up being thrown like how you'd whack a sledgehammer against the floor.
