Do you view a Lewis vs Klitschko rematch was really necessary?

Only necessary if you're a Klit fan.

Bull****, I was a bigger Lewis fan, and I think this fight deserved a rematch just like I think Trinidad-DLH should have also rematched and I'm a Tito fan.

VK had his chance & he couldn't avoid getting cut up. Some things only come along once in life. IMO Lewis should have retired before he even fought VK.

The whole point of the thread is to determine if Vitali deserved a second chance. Cuts are accidental. You don't go there looking to score a cut, or set up a cut, if anything you want to set up knock outs. I have no complaints about the first fight because everything that happened was fair. However, I do think the chances of Vitali getting cut on a rematch would be small, hence giving him a very good shot at going 12 rounds with Lewis and possibly even win. Lewis was on his way out anyways, he could have left with a dominating performance or pass the torch.

EDIT: Kind of curious we have the same amount of posts as I write this.

Exactly. Lewis was getting old & would only decline further. Klitchko was getting better. Lewis was smart to quit when he did plus that fight was good for Vitali. Apart from the cuts he was doing well.

Fine you want to go down that path, then simply watch lewis when he was younger and compare he to when he was older, huge difference, especially in speed. Watch his fight with Ruddock compared to Vitali, huge, huge difference in speed, both hand and feet.

And who better than Lewis himself would know whether or not he was shot..he decided he was..you, some internet wannabe who never even met the guy, decided he wasn't. I'm sure he'd be flattered to think you had such a high regard for him, but the fact is his skills were diminishing.

And when you respond please provide me a list of heavyweight champs who IMPROVED in their late 30's, if my generalization is so far off the mark.

You need to leave this board and find a boxing board for children and/or ******s.
You would be at home there.

Come back when you can psycologically deal with Lennox W TKO6 Vitali.

You watch boxing right? If so, then I would assume you know that cuts never completely heal and they form scare tissue and are easily opened up again, within a year or so.

That being the case, then in all likelihood yes Vitali would have cut again, because he was CUT IN THREE PLACES, not just one. Surely you've seen the pictures by now.

So there was no "lucky cut" apparently there was three "lucky cuts". The only obvious conclussion is that Lewis was able to hit Vitali in a manner that caused cuts..and there's really no reason to think this wouldn't happen again.

LL was the legit winner of a close fight.
LL was smart to not rematch VK.
VK can give any heavy from any time all he can handle.

We still frequently talk about that fight here and it was almost a decade ago. What would have happened if the fight had went on or if there was no cut in the first place will just have to remain a matter of speculation. Of course a rematch would have been ****ing huge, but Lewis got out at the right time. It was the smart move on his part

Smart but cowardly. Left more questions than answers. Besides, he did not get out right away but only almost a year later. It was a messy and cowardly exit from the sport by somebody who used the be a great fighter.

It would have been a quality fight and potentially improved Lewis's status if he'd won it but no I don't think it was needed in the sense that his win wasnt legitimate.

If Lewis felt he was no longer able to motivate himself to perform at his previous level though I see nothing wrong with him ending his career when he did. Since when is it a fighters responibility to keep on going until he loses his spot at the top?

Lewis' legacy is far greater than both Klitschko's combined. He's seen as a top 5 heavyweight of all-time by most fans.

There's nothing cowardly about it. He beat Vitali fair but he was shot. I'm sure you would have proffered to see him hang around until he lost but why would he? If Vitali retires without losing, will that be a cowardly move? Of course not. When Lewis beat Vitali, he showed signs of being a shot fighter.

Had he rematched Vitali and beaten him again, I think you'd still say it was "cowardly" because he didn't fight Wlad.

Had he beaten Vitali twice and Wlad, is there an uncle Klitschko they could call on?
