Do you view a Lewis vs Klitschko rematch was really necessary?

Klit fan reasoning sinks to a new low. 'Lucky' or not, the records will always say. . . .

What do you mean by 'lucky'?

Lewis through a punch at Vitali's face and it cut him. What is lucky about that? Do you understand what the concept of luck is?

And what if Lewis was losing on the scorecards? Sugar Ray was losing handily to Tommy Hearns when he TKO'd him. Does that take anything away from Sugar Ray's win? I don't think so.

    Easily Yes.

I'm sorry but, despite the cut, Vitali was winning.

Who the **** wouldn't want to see a rematch? And who the **** doesn't think thats grounds for a rematch?

Yes, in my view a rematch was necessary. I'm not going to argue over the first fight because the right call was made to save Vitali's face so he could continue on with his career like he did. However, I do think it wasn't in the best inerest of the sport for Lennox to deny us the rematch.

I remember Lewis repeating "look at the state of his face" (reffereing to Klitschko), but I invite you all to revisit that night on youtube, and pay close attention to Lennox Lewis face while Vitali raised his voice and hand signaling he wasn't really defeated, but just interrupted. Lennox looked defeated by a man who was not supposed to even compete with him.

I think Lennox didn't only owe this fight to the fans and to Vitali, but he really owed it to himself and his legacy. The first fight was close, and from what I remember, neither really had a lot of time to prepare for each other. Lennox was starting to have more success when the fight was stopped, but Vitali was still landing, and fighting right on par with him, so anything could have happened that night even with the cut.

It speaks volume to me that Lewis seemed saved from the fight being stopped, and Vitali frustrated. That battle may have been over, but the war sure wasn't and I think it sucks that we didn't get to see how they would've closed down the show in a second encounter.

I don't know about it being necessary but how can any combat sport fan argue against it?

Been knocked out twice by also-rans and he's STILL considered waaaaay above your beloved Klitschko's. What was your point again?

It would have been necessary had Lewis continued to fight. He had a great career, though, so his decision to retire doesn't bother me one bit.

He threw a punch at Vitali's face. He didn't accidently throw a punch, he threw a right hand shot with intent and it connected with Vitali's face, cutting it badly. Whether it was a thumb is completely up for debate. I do not believe it was a thumb, but I have no problem with you believing so. It doesn't take anything away from my argument.

If Lewis had closed his eyes, spun around, and threw punched like a windmill, eventually connecting with Vitali and cutting him, THAT would be lucky. Throwing a big right hand, with intent, connecting, and cutting your opponent, is not lucky at all. Regardless of how he connected, Lewis threw a punch, it landed, it cut, he won. End of disscussion.

The cuts were caused by the thumb and the inside of the glove. The ref just did not see it and there is no instant replay in boxing. If there was Vitali would have won a technical decision. That's why rematch was necessary.

People wanted to see it, it would have made a fortune. I am more of a Vitali fan than a Lewis fan. I respect Lewis for it now though looking back. He knew he was getting older and you have to retire at some time. It wasnt cowardly it was smart. I am tired of seeing guys like RJJ and Holyfield fighting when they are shot.

I ****ing hate Calfaggi but I can respect him retiring for good at his age.

I don't think it was nessecary, no. Lewis fought Vitali's fight and proved he was the better man, despite any opinions that cut stoppages are somehow less significant than any other stoppage. A rematch would likely be a boring, technical match-up which heavily favours Lewis.

The first fight was great fun. A rematch would be a technical bout, with Lewis possibly losing 3 or 4 rounds.

Prove it. I am not disputing what you are saying, I would just like you to provide evidence to back up your claim.

If the thumb was so blatant, why was the fight not reviewed afterwards and changed to a no decision? They did it with Campbell - Bradley, I see no reason why they would not do it in this instance.
