I'm not a huge fan of his fighting style because it appears he runs at times. But to me, I think he was screwed in the fights against Williams and Canelo. The Williams fight was a blatant fix, the Canelo fight was close but I thought Canelo looked like an amateur. I really do feel that on a given night, Lara can beat any LMW or MW. Or do some of you feel as if he may be overrated? His performances are kind of confusing. The draws against Vanes and Molina especially.
He is a little over rated. He should have Ws against Canelo, and Williams if there was fair judging. But at this point his really basic, jab, and left cross, high guard style, isn't half of what Winky Wright's was. I don't see why more guys aren't willing to fight him. He mostly pity pats and usually doesn't punch with power. It's not like he is breaking faces like Rigondeaux or something.
Lara is a solid fighter, but 154 is not a great division. He should move up to 160, since he could get some lucrative fights and he has the skills and mobility to get the job done. The only problem with Lara is that like Rigondeaux he ruined an opportunity when he got a lot of exposure. His fight with Canelo was his chance to get a strong following and he blew it. At 160 Lara can fight Lemieux, Jacobs, N' Dam, BJS, or Charlo. An entertaining over any of those guys could land him a fight with GGG or a rematch with Canelo, but 154 is dead right now.
Lara lost the hunger. Dude has been through so much but the Canelo decision got to him? (i wonder if there is more to it) Since 14, his best win is Martirosyan. No one asked for that fight, n or did anyone ask for Smith, Foreman, Zaveck or Rodriguez. His resume is ****ing ridiculous. Lara is done. He is just milking that belt.
My take on Lara is this; Hes good.. And is a very awkward and crafty fighter so he makes most opponents look bad.. Lots of times people say he got robbed yet hes always left that ''Controversial'' Supposedely he won the fight decision in the hands of the judges and I honestly think its cause hes just not elite and not great enough.. He is good though but if he was this ''amazing'' figher some fans made him out to be then he wouldnt have left any doubts and wouldve had very clear wins.. So a good fighter but not great.
I'd say he's a little underrated. I actually enjoy watching guys like him and don't find him boring at all.
Canelo beat him, let's face the facts. He's vastly over rated on this board but rated correctly outside the web fan clowns. He's beat Williams, that's thed wrong he received Having 2 great rounds and 4 semi close rounds with canelo made him so vastly over rated on here. If fmj didn't fight canelo there wouldn't be this myth that he "beat" Canelo. Canelo took his sole
I did, and I still think he is a very good talent but he is beyond irrelevant at the moment. Until he gets a high profile fight he is meaningless.
I agree with this. I overrated him myself for a while and he clearly has top-level skill but if he was that good, he wouldn't have struggled with guys like Vanes and Molina. Also, before he won by tko, Angulo was actually walking him down a little and landing decent shots. At this point Angulo looked like he was walking through treacle. Now, he gave Canelo a close fight and the judges did him dirty against Williams, so I'm not saying he's mediocre. Just not the fighter a lot of us thought he'd be.
