Angulo knocked him down twice pretty heavily and was up on one of the judges scorecards when he was stopped for some more context. A limited guy like him, who appeared to be moving in slow motion, should have been picked off easily by a guy with Lara's skill-set. That he wasn't, finally made me realise that Lara is what he is - good, with flashes of real excellence, but not great.
Overrated. Lost to Carlos Molina. With Lara's excessive level of risk aversion, he did not deserve the decision over Canelo. He was a shame to boxing that night, I'm afraid there's no finesse in a performance like that. Went through life and death against Angulo who was quite the punchbag. Beat Williams, though. He got lucky being born in this era, he wouldn't have lasted in the others where they had less tolerance for his style. So for this era, he was a 'very good' boxer, borderline elite yet still not elite.
With regards to the Canelo fight, I agree but think he won. I felt weird when the fight was over. If this makes sense, Lara didn't deserve to win at all by the way he ran, but I still believe he won more rounds than Canelo.
Your commentary on Rigondeaux is bull****. It wasn't Rigondeaux's fault that Frampton, Quigg, and Santa Cruz are coward bitches.
Among boxing fans, he's probably rated about right, imo. He has supporters and detractors in about the right ratio and his style lends itself to close decisions against good opposition. I thought Canelo beat him, but am well aware that there are some sharp fans that think he won. In the final analysis, he could have been better than he ended up being, but then that is my opinion for many really good fighters who err on the side of caution and whose emphatic statements in the ring are few and far between.
He's probably deserved to be in the middle of the p4p top 10 lists for the last six years, but I don't think he's ever been listed in the Ring. Probably as good as Ward or Rigondeaux, good as Mayweather too in recent years. They've got negative non-fan friendly overly cautious styles but have been lucky enough to be on the winning side of all their robberies.
