Hopkins said he likes the idea of winning The Ring belt as cruiserweight. He has no possible opponents and it seems logical for him if he wants to establish his status as a legend even more. What do you think ?
There is intrigue but at the end of the day you have one of the most exciting fighters in the world, vs a guy who will do everything he can to foul, spoil and make things dull. Hopkins has no real fan base and most of the time he's dull yet they keep him on HBO; it is wrong. Adamek can draw a good 6000, nice local attraction, starting to get good TV coverage. Frankly, Adamek has enough exciting potential foes out there - Troy Ross, Wlodarczyk (biggest all Polish fight ever?), Cunningham (Steve has to win the elim v Braithwaite; can't get immeidate IBF rematch coming off a loss). If Adamek goes on a good run, I'll bet Dawson comes up to cruiser. Dawson at cruiser is a great fight as it's revenge, it's HBo, it's at a weight that Adamek can win at. But will Adamek see the big picture or will he go for the immediate money? Will Hopkins make silly demands like catchweight etc, will Hopkins price himself out, we don't know? I will believe it when it happens.
I'm pretty certain I heard Dawson quoted somewhere as saying he'd rather go down to SMW and has no intention of going up to CW. It's understandable, he's got the kind of style where if he was too bulky he might lose his speed and reflexes, we wouldn't want to see that happen.
You guys crack me up. Why do you guys always ask for Hopkins to fight guys at CW & HW? The dude is 44, not 28. When you're 44, you don't take risk like that. It's not going to happen, so give it up. & let me guess, if Tomasz were to call out Hopkins & Hopkins declined, "he's ducking bad@ss Adamek."
Hell yeah! What a fight that would be! Unfortunately Adamek is still no big name. What a shame he never had his Paul Briggs wars or the Cunningham fight on live HBO main events, he clearly one of the most exciting big guys out there. It would be a very interesting fight.
Not a matchup I'm dying to see, but if Hops steps up to the plate and moves up then I'll definitely be watching.
not really. i think it's a bad decision from Bhops part, but i think the man got tired of waiting around for joe cal who didn't want to give Bhops a rematch, now what does that say? as for adamek, well i wouldn't blame him for taking a fight with Bhops there aren't many names at cruiser and even tho i like flores he isn't proven yet. adamek might be a nightmare stylistically for Bhops, but the legend has proved us wrong before and i'd pick Bhops to win. even at 200 Bhops is no jonathon banks or cunningham
I think the best thing at the moment for Adamek would be to face Enzo Macc in the UK.... it would be a big unifactaion fight (if macca wins) and it would let alot of Adameks Polish fans watch him. It would sell out a very big arena IMO Thats if Frank Warren would let Macca fight Tomasz
This proves yet again that banks was a hyped up american boxer just cause he had an undefeated record. This is what happens when americans fight top European fighters. They get knocked the f*ck out. The same will happen to chad dawson when he fights a top European fighter.
