personally...i'd prefer him to fight tarver than either of them...but money is what will dictate - so it will be jones..
neither i rather see him fight dawson. Rjj isnt in the light heavy picture and pavlik fights at two weight classes lower then light heavy.
They say that every great fighter has one great fight left in them when they get older. Why not put that to the test and see RJJ vs. Calzaghe. I think Roy's little win streak has earned him a title shot at someone and you know that a fight between him and Calzaghe would be a marquee event. I should probably be saying Calzaghe vs. Pavlik but I'm a sucker for nostalgia.
If I had to chose I would lean towards Pavlik. But I would much rather see him in with Tarver, Dawson or Glen Johnson.
I picked Jones as at least he has a chance at winning that fight albeit a small one......Jones could make Joe look as ignorant as PBF made Hatton look and Pavlik will knock him out easily Joe would merely be added to the long list of fighters that havent been KOd to be KOd by Pavlik....easy work as those pitty pat punches would be walked through....dare to think for a minute....if ol'Popkins can put Joe on the floor Pavliks right hand would put him in two places: the hospital and retirement
Pavlik would get smashed by Joe IMO, and I have a feeling Roy could actualy put up a decent fight, atleast after Joe vs Roy we could imagine and speculate what that fight would have looked like if it happened 5 or so years ago (Roy KO Joe). :good
If Joe hands a beating to Pavlik the excuses would be coming too fast count. He would be too green, unproven, moving up in weight, too small, blah blah blah. He's got one fight left and will look for the biggest pay day. That is Jones. I want to see that fight mainly as it will happen over here and I'd like to see Jones and JC fight again. Ticking off both wishes on the same night would be nice.
Maybe not so great. In this scenario Joe goes out 45-2. Personally I'd love to see it, but this really isn't in Slappy's best interest.
The flaw in the argument is that Pavlik hasn't actually done anything to actually justify being rated top ten P4P, although some people seem to do so. The same argument applies to Dawson. If Calzaghe won convincingly against either, then people would just dismiss them as hypejobs, same as Lacy. The better Calzaghe performed, ironically, the more his win would be discredited. Jones may be past it, but the name remains. It's a more glamourous fight, better box office and offers more in legacy terms.
