Do you watch MMA for the sporting competition, or just for the brutal violence?

I watch it for the sheer variety of skills involved.

When Fedor pulled that armbar on Mark Coleman, when Lyoto Machida flies at someone and sends them sprawling to the canvas, when BJ Penn clambers all over someone like a crazed spider and dominates the **** out of them on the mat, when Anderson Silva grins, dances, then knocks someone senseless, when Dominick Cruz goes into hypermode with crazy movement and striking...

I could go on. There are so many amazing technicians in MMA, their skillsets blow me away time and again.

I mean, I do enjoy a good old-fashioned tear-up as much as the next guy, but it's when an elite technician does something completely unexpected and brilliant that really endears MMA to me.

The sport really does get a bad rap. It's insanely skilled at the top level.

when i first started to watch it when pride was still going and i knew nothing about the sport then i wall just watching to see a brutal fight or a knockout. but the more i watched i got to understand the sport. i think half the battle is to understand what happens when they are both down on the mat. at the start i had know idea why they were taking each other down, and i couldnt see what subs or dominant position's were. it takes time to find these things out. then when i figured it out i started to appreciate the skill involved and not just looking for a knockout.

I honestly watch it for skills. I want it to be as technical as possible because thats how the sport was founded by Rorion. On the same token, I want to be able to see those technical skills applied in fights.

The wild swinging stuff (Wand, Shogun, Nick Diaz, Fedor), Im not really a fan of. But I can see it for its entertainment. At the end of the day, its Sports entertainment.

I watch it sometimes to see Glass Jaws shatter. It's amazing how many MMA fighters get wobbled by jabs.

I used to watch it purely for the BJJ. Got into it from my brother who thought it was all brilliant but being a boxing fan first I always looked at the striking and thought it was awful and the technical side was on the ground. once you realise the striking in MMA and boxing are completely different you begin to appreciate everything.

I still think the BJJ is the main reason I watch it though as it looks the most technical thing in the sport.

kicks and stomps to a grounded opponent isn't a thing I'm a fan of although Knees I think should be allowed on the ground.

Im a fight fan always have been love boxing first since i was a kid, but i also like MMA

i admit im not as big a fan and dont follow it as much but then again its always PPV and i rarely find full fights in good quality on youtube

basically i liked boxing, i was a wrestler so immediately i could appreciate aspects of it in several ways

i love it as a sport but i must admit i loved early UFC when it was cruder with less rules

though i will say in the last decade the sport has evolved so much, when UFC first began it was like a bunch of masters of 1 art to see what art was best

now its like all the fighters are pretty good in all areas and the fighting is more well rounded all guys can strike, grapple and all other components rare to see a incomplete guy rule UFC anymore

obviously as a fight fan violence is enjoyed i mean a good technical match is great but not every time out
